  1. So good to hear. Happy they are being used for such a great purpose! Thank you for organizing.
  2. I don't think they look too skinny. Perhaps the chronomid / zebra midge pattern could use a little taper to the body - which could be handled by more thread wraps rather than dubbing. From my perspective the RS2 and PT look fine (although I'm no expert.)
  3. Blane, I put four sets of flies in the mail today: 3 sets of dry flies and a set of PT Nymphs. I didn't tag them as I thought they were going into a box to be used - sorry if that's a problem.
  4. My flies went in the mail this morning - included an extra set of Soft Hackle Jig PT along with the Polish PT Nymph.
  5. I'll tie a few up and see how they work up here in the Northeast.
  6. I'll join, thanks. Just made the minimum post requirement.
  7. Thanks! Incidentally, how do you discover these? I've tried searching and don't see the way to find relevant, free e-books on Amazon.
  8. Great link Cheech, thanks! That stonefly looks really nice. Is there a recipe or step-by-step for the pattern?
  9. Go with "furnace" over brown and if you tie midges, I've found I get good use out of my black cape. Additionally, the l;arger webby feathers on the furnace and black capes are good for buggers
  10. I bought some of the jig hooks on impulse to reach the required amount to qualify for the discount. Any suggestions on patterns to try? I've heard some use them for beadhead nymphs.
  11. I use vice jaws for all but the smallest hooks - but rethinking after reading this thread... I keep meaning to leave the barbs up for flies I submit for swaps in order to ensure they stay on the toe tag, but often forget since crushing the barb has become such a habit.
  12. I might add a second set of flies to my contribution (that OK?) October baseball makes for some anxious moments and tying flies keeps me sane. I'm thinking a simple Beadhead Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail as a second variant. Let me know if that's ok. Thanks.
  13. I tied Davie McPhail's Polish Pheasant Tail Nymph. Very appropriate autumn colors.
  14. I'll join if you'll have me. Thanks.
  15. Nice - love the rant Jam. WFN was the right channel it seems. I spent sometime searching the channel guide and came up with: -American Fly Guide -Fishing the Flats -Fly Nation -Seasons on the Fly -The New Fly Fisher -Spanish Fly -Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing -Game Fisher's Diary -Guided with Mark Melynk I didn't even search for reality / extreme stuff - doesn't work for me. I figure I'll record an episode or two of each and see what works. Let me know if any of these are to be avoided. Thanks guys.
  16. Ok, I know you guys are all out fishing every free chance you get, but doesn't anyone watch TV around here? Getting ready for the winter slow-down...
  17. Anyone have a few recommended shows that are currently on television? I just changed my cable package and have a few new channels. Obviously a preference for fly fishing. Thanks!
  18. My flies arrived today. There are some wonderful flies in the package - I'm blown away by the craftsmanship. The trout around here aren't going to know what hit them!
  19. Link to video demonstrating using glue to tie off hackle that williamhj mentions: Tightline Productions I've used and the flies seem as durable as other methods.
  20. Follow up on this fly as I had a chance to fish it: -combination of larger hackle and wings along with the fact that it was placed to far forward led to the fly landing "face down" on many casts -uneven wings did cause some spinning that eventually caused a twisted tippet -I was fishing on a local tailwater that is notorious for selective fish - many approaches and refusals until the sulphur hatch was well underway -quill body was much more difficult to keep floating than a similar dubbed body I'll follow up with an improved version that hopefully reflects some of the feedback here once I have a chance to get the camera setup. Thanks for the input!
