Look for Metz #2 Magnum Saddles in dyed over grizzly. They are about $35.00 per full saddle and they have some really good long slender feathers.

Nice job. Only suggestion would be to move the angle of the camera so that the head of the fly is a little more visible to the viewer.
-
So you are saying that when you drop the fly in the water, it drops point down even after a thorough soaking to wet all the materials?

Is that K-SS PT wing rabbit's foot?

Give the Veevus 16/0 a try, I think you will like it. Available in 16 colors and has a 15oz breaking strength.

The reason for the 4.6mm tube is to get a larger inside diameter to pass through a wire trace that has already been rigged with a hook and loop end. Knotted or crimped, the trace connection is too tight to readily change flies without having to have all flies rigged with their own hooks.

Does anyone have a domestic source for 4.6mm tubes for tying pike flies? Also a source for dyed XXL ostrich plumes with really long, fluffy herl of 6-8 inches in length?

Cut the tie-in end at an angle to minimize the build up at the tail. Get a good solid tie-in and you can stretch as you wrap to make the body thinner at the back and thicker at the front.

Yesterday. All kidding aside, you don't have to dry hackle feathers before you use them. You can pluck them right from the bird and use them.
