  1. Very nice and hope to see pictures of the target fish caught on these, too.
  2. I feel the pain, decided to go with foam, have a mini lathe run by a cordless drill. I think spinning hair bugs is about the highest form of fly tying art and science and requires a lot more time than I have right now, maybe more patience than I will ever have. Good luck and skill
  3. great job for first try on a tube. After several dozen tried I don't have many that look this good
  4. These will be killers if juvenile perch are lurking about with bass. I like this one and will have to try it out. Are you making your own bendback hooks or using off the shelf model?
  5. Takes a master to put a together a flawless specimen that passes inspection at 150 times actual size. Good thing the fish I tease are not equipped with digital zoom eyesight, although some days it seem they might be.
  6. Still pursuing the large members of the sunfish family and glad to have added the smallmouth to repertoire.
  7. Borrowed some elements from everybody's suggestions. Here is my first try. If it is a keeper I will solicit a name and upload with a s-b-s. Thanks to all respondents for a team effort.
  8. Let us know when it is back up. I loved that place and your pages were always my first stop when I logged in while thing of tying flies. Hope you find the right host soon. I have had the best luck with Go Daddy for some of my business operations. Very cost effective for me but do not know if they could handle your requirements, and you should not ever compromise on the photo qualities, as yours was the best of the best, in mho.
  9. Killer for my neck of the woods. Have a trophy trout lake about 15 minutes from home. Black midges very abundant. I am unable to access your site at danica.com. For several weeks. What is up with that?
  10. Probably bleached. My granddaughter is a wise guy. We were talking about her fuzzy dog when she told me the following: Fuzzy wuzzy was a bear Fuzzy wuzzy had no hair Fuzzy wuzzy wasn't very fuzzy wuzzy Was he?
  11. Thanks to all, I will post some of my work on these in a couple of weeks. FYI, I also found a good sample or two in the FFF, Fly Pattern Encyclopedia, although there is some confusion and mix-up with the photo and recipe on page 104. Very nice, simple example on page 100 however, so off the computer soon and back to the vice, uh I mean vise.
  12. I think I will try this one today. I like the slim profile. I think I have all the ingredients. Thanks for your insights. We need to stock up on Fathead imitations around here (Buffalo, Wyoming) as Wyoming Game and Fish has declared that this species is the only one allowed to be sold by commercial bait dealers. We have many live bait restrictions and most are good for the fisheries but I am not sure why the golden shiners are no longer favored and did not want to debate it with the guy who was kind enough to get me the picture of the Fathead. Mucho gracias
  13. both great suggestions and checked these out and both will find the their way to my vice, although I might need to add a couple more packages of material to inventory in the man-cave. I won't tell my trophy wife of 35 years if you don't. Thanks
  14. Like it, can see why it works on the sunfish family and very adaptable to my requisites.
  15. More observant than I, I was looking for a cheap way for carrying a working selection of 14-16-18 trout nymphs, while in my kayak. The slim profile suggests a couple would fit in my shirt pocket. I have lost an entire bristle box due to rust after soggy trip, followed by me spacing out and leaving the fly boxes in the hold for a few days while kayak was strapped on the truck. Now I leave the boxes in the truck and try to predict what I am likely going to need while on the water.
  16. Beautiful work, thanks for notice
  17. I have a curved model with a "ketchum release" style devise built on it. Works on everything from brook trout to northern pike. I prefer barbless hooks too, easier to get out of me when the wind or a distraction causes me to miscast. Only been to the emergency room once when my nephew hooked me in the nose with a beadhead pheasant tail. Had a barb that had not been pinched down. He still brags about the 230 pounder that got away.
  18. Looking for help on the prime forage fish in most of our local lakes and ponds. Trying to get the right color combo's and layers. Attached is a picture from a fisheries biologist but this is a pretty large size compared to most of the real minnows I have observed. Would enjoying seeing some pictures or recipes. I have experimented but I am not satisfied with results thus far. Many thanks
  19. "Fly" was a popper I made by making a hole in a small cork with a nail and jammed over a Micky Finn streamer I took from my dad's creel. Fish was a largemouth bass about 12 inches. Place was an abandoned sandpit near the confluence of the North Platte and South Platte rivers. We fourth-graders had been using little black and yellow poppers but ran out of money and lost too many and had to improvise. Was using a steel fly rod with an automatic reel that I still have after inheriting it. Didn't know it then but I was dry-fly fishing. Started me on a life-long, almost obsessive-compulsive hobby and here I am. OK, I admit to the OCD. Thanks for starting this topic.
  20. When I saw the Hamm's "Land of Sky Blue Waters" in the old days as a kid, it made me want to go fishing. Took much longer to acquire a taste for beers but.........
