  1. My apologies, could a moderator please move this post to the Steelhead forum. Thanks
  2. I plan to make my first Great Lakes steelhead trip i 2011. Looong over due in might add. My favorite streamer for trout is John Barr's Meat Whistle. Does anyone fish them for steelhead? Like pink, blue, fushia, purple? This pattern is awsome. Seems like it would work great swinging for steel. Not that I know much about steelies. The fly has GREAT movement!! If I had any materials in those colors i would whip a few up and post picks. For trout I fish white, black, olive, brown, YELLOW "hint, hint" and chartruse.
  3. I have noticed that adding "EAT ME" on my spoon flies increased my catch rate 10-1.
  4. Meat Whistles!! Yellow is my best big boy streamer.
  5. Basically a #10 brassie w lead tape underneath like on Czech nymphs
  6. Maybe someone has done it allready. But took a #10 scud hook. Wraped with lead tape. Added round .10 wire up front. Smoothed body w thread & cement. Wraped large brassie wire & dubbed peacock dubbing up front. I LIKE this one. Haven't fished it yet. Wish someone would tye one & post pic.

  8. Thanks fellas. I may scare the sh*t outta the trout in my home stream with size 10-12s!! usually catch everything on size 16-18. But there is some fast runs about 3ft deep i would like to "czech" out.
  9. How in the world do you come up with colors for em!!? Ive seen some pretty crazy colors. Also do the larger sizes work well even if the naturals are much smaller in the stream?
  10. Sounds funny. But have had alot of fun @ night for surface trout with black #6 deer hairbug. Just cast to the bank or structure. Pull acrossed water at a steady strip.
  11. I apply water-shed to the bottom of my hair bugs.
  12. VERY nice tye! Feather-Craft has furled leaders for streamers with small swivels on them. Look on there website.
  13. Hold up, hold up. Im and idiot! I was siting here thinking and relized that I should have tyed on a 4x hook. Been tying BIG bucktails last time I tyed and the box was sitting there when I sat down. :wallbash:
  14. I cant find any good hackle for size 4-6 buggers. All the saddles I look at are to thin at the tip. Or not long enough to run the lenght of a Tiemco 300 6x. Any help please.
  15. What fish is going to want to eat that? Looks like no fish will mess with it!
  16. These are the flies that we use with the most effectivness. I do tye alot of other flies to try but usualy 4 at a time. I have been just crankn out the flies. I am off of work today because of the rain. I have tyed a couple dozen buggers by 8:00. I want to have 2 dozen flies for each pattern. That should last for a good while.
  17. I tye for my dad, brother, wife, and my self. Also my 2yr old in a few years "exciting". Any tips on tying in bulk from any commerical tyers? I have read A.K's book and it wasnt what I thought it would be. I get all of my materials ready befor tying the first fly. I have been trying two do a dozen a night. But anyone have any other ideas please. There are about 34 patterns of different size and colors. Includes mostly generic patterns mostly. As we do best with these flies on our home stream with wild rainbows. Dry flys are indicator flies mostly. Not many good hatches but some big 2-6lb. rainbows in a small creek. #12 EHC tan, olive, cream #12 para adams #12 dry woolies #10 black beetles #10 Madam X olive/ tan #14, 18 BHPT #12, 16 prince nymph #14, 18 copper john copper, red #14, 18 BHC Larva olive, tan #14 scuds grey, tan, orange #18 olive nymphs #12-18 GBHE #10 BH Buggers olive, olive/ black
  18. sounds good. can we get a reciept for taxes? Just kidding. Great idea.
  19. Stoped off at feather craft after work today. Picked up chart., olive, orange, and yellow guinea feathers. I assume you tye the feathers in like regular soft hackels? Anyone know if I should use 2 of each color for size 4-8 buggers?
  20. Cant remeber the name of it but it has a orange tribal looking fish logo. Please help. Has a lot of Michigan stuff.
  21. Thanks for the responses. Im told that the sharks will more than likely be black tips. If we have a girl to that likes to fish great!! My wife likes to flyfish as well, er at least for awhile till she quites catching fish. She isnt as die hard as myself. So you think even bigger decievers? Mine a made of fish hair instead of bucktail, with uv knot sense heads. But BIGGER??? That really blows my mind. Come to think of it I dont know if it will fit in my renzetti vise or not? By the way I think shark week is starting this Sunday. Cant wait!!! Please anyone else with info please help. I want to know everything possible befor I go in September. Thank ya much.
  22. Hello all, I have fished the Alabama coast twice now. Both of wich were winter , early spring. I was only able to spin fish because my uncle had said the water was to cold for the fish to move in close. I did catch 30lb. plus reds and a lot of 4-5lb blues. Awsome fun. But this time I will be going in September. As long as they arent haveing anymore hurricanes. I really need some help with a few things. 1. Should I use a sink tip for fishing the surf? This will probably be my only kind of fishing while there. 2. Sharks!!! Give me any kind of info about shark fishing from the surf. I want to catch one so bad I cant stand it!!! But no chuming for obvious reasons. I have to prove to my uncle that it can be done on fly tackle. He told me I was crazy! He said to keep catching those little trout with em. He only tinkers with specks on a fly rod. So far my plan is to cast 3/0 red, white, orange, and yellow decievers blind at dawn/ dusk. My wife is kind of freaked out about this, and my mother chewed on me for awhile because of the recent shark attacks. Go figure? By the way I have a nice Redington Wayfer 8wt and Ross Canyon reel. Also a 10wt Sage xi2 and Ross Canyon #6 that my wife had given me for a wedding gift in June. God love her, but I could have choked her when she gave it to me. Thats a lot of money! Since I may only get to use it a few times each year. But it is awsome!!!! So as you can see, between pride and expenssive equipment I have to have a succesful trip!! NO EXCUSES!!! Any help please. I will probably get to fish a little bit of the florida panhandle as well. Thanks to all for reading all of this and for any help. SHARKS SHARKS SHARKS!!!! P.S. Feeling pretty proud. I we found out today that we will have a little boy in November. A new little fishing buddy for me. My wife says we should have a little girl next so they can go shoping when we fish. Fair enough right?
  23. Does anyone know of a good place on the internet to purchase the book/ chart? I would like to have one to keep in my vest. I have never seen one but have read of the chart some where in the hundereds of books and magazines that I own. I assume it is like a small paint chip type book. Thank you for any help.
