  1. I've been told badger hair is a good sub if you are tying streamers
  2. Although it does sound like a blast, at this point I could not justify buying a 12wt or 14 wt I don't think it would see daylight often enough! lol Maybe some time later in life though!
  3. I originally asked my question in the fly fishing section. I completely forgot the salt had its own section. Anyways, I know most of the Saltwater guys are in Florida but that is too far away LOL. I'm just curious if any one has fished the bays and beaches in Southern California and if anyone has any knowledge on locations and flies they are willing to share with me? Thanks!
  4. What weight do you need for makos, a 10 wt at least right?
  5. So I know there are tons of saltwater guys, but it seems like most of them are on the east coast with a high concentration of you living in Florida. Although I love Florida and have visited St. Augustine many times I don't see myself making that trek again anytime soon. That being said California is a more manageable journey and with the right equipment I would fish the salt in a heartbeat. Anybody have tips on specific locations and flies they would be willing to share. General saltwater tips are welcome as well!
  6. I agree with mike a curved blade is the go to for skinning. However, when it comes to rabbits there is a method were you just stand on there ears and pull there legs. I cant remember exact details, but I've done it before and it works great, very fast and very efficient.
  7. I think you got it Mike, I mostly just want to try the two-handing style. I think the splash effect wont be to damning to my success, at least as fishing for LM Bass go. Especially because I'll be fishing as deep as possible. My main Purpose in asking is just to make sure a two hander won't have to narrow of an application to justify me purchasing it. I made a mistake by including the paddleboard in the question I think. lol I think it would be great for some overgrown rivers I fish for pike but don't have room for a good back cast. It would also be great for the kokanee that are located a little more north of me. Would an 8wt be to heavy for the average trout? I have a lot to think about! lol
  8. Jack, I am right on the Nevada, Utah, Arizona border it gets quite hot lol. So the paddleboard would be used April through October on water close to home. The water temperature is no problem as it ranges from 55ish to the upper 80's in the water I would be fishing. I do fish waters at a lot higher elevation, with a lot lower water temps but I know better than to paddle board out there though lol.
  9. Also, am I mistaken that it takes less effort to two hand cast farther than a one handed cast, once you develop the technique?
  10. Alright, I see that although it's possible it is unnecessary so instead of a spey rod, my next rod (don't tell my wife) will probably be an 8wt switch rod, because there are many lakes and rivers that I fish and don't have a lot of back cast room and two handed casting would be ideal, but there is also many bodies of water where I have plenty of room. Utah DWR has started stocking and regulating quite a few waters with kokanee salmon. They would be a blast fishing for with a two hander I think!
  11. Im wondering if it would be effective to Skagit cast with an 8wt spey rod off of a paddleboard. Im thinking of getting a spey rod, as it would be perfect for one of my larger local reservoirs, but I would be casting off a paddleboard and im not sure if that would throw me off balance. So do you guys think is it plausible enough to consider or am I wasting my thoughts?
  12. The picture of that rattler made me jump lol
  13. Dave G. mentioned a Sony camcorder they are used by many fisherman on Youtube specifically the Sony actioncam 2. Look up Ken Tanaka, or Wish for Fish on Youtube for some samples. It has great video quality, but then again I don't know if you are wanting to photograph flies specifically or looking for an action cam.
  14. Hey Flats, Like may other have said there are thousands of camera's that meet your given criteria. So clarification on your part may go a long way. For example, is the purpose of this camera mostly for photographing flies and making tying tutorials with a bit of fishing mixed in, or is its main purpose documenting your fishing trips, with a little fly photography mixed in. Hopefully you know that camera that takes good macro photos of flies is most likely not going to be the most functional and effective camcorder to document your fishing trips, especially with a budget of 300 dollars. Which brings me to my next point, if you aren't satisfied with a 200 dollar camera chances are 80-100 bucks isn't going to make that big of difference. With a good attitude and your choices narrowed down you are more likely to receive the advice you seek from guys on this forum. Brody
  15. Just making an observation, and I don't know a lot about salt water fish so bear with me, but if one did come across Snook in a fish market wouldn't that be a good sign that the population is growing?
  16. It's Pretty decent video compared to others I've seen. Quite easy to follow like always. My one complaint, the music man, the music! Haha not that big of deal, but I have a hard time listening to it. Unfortunately, I have a harder time listening to silence. Like others have said already, keep practicing to keep getting better!
  17. I have always caught bass as well as trout on a small all black Clouser with red eyes and krystal flash of course. Keep experimenting color combos that work may surprise you.
  18. Yeah Rocco I would love to hear how you feel about it after a while please let us know
  19. Poopdeck has a point my father and law gave me a bottle that is still super thin and not gooey at all and it came from the early 90's at least. A little extra care when storing could go along way.
  20. Flats, I talked my wife into letting me use her UV fingernail kit. I save a lot of my flies and then cure them in batches. If anyone in your family has one, ask to borrow it and replace whatever you use of their polish, but it may take more than that to convince them, to sway my wife it took a weeks worth of dishes LOL. Good Luck, Brody
  21. Welcome to the site Husky. There is a lot of great people on here. Probably great fishing in the Rockies, if you've got some pictures post them up!
  22. Some of you guys on here are salty enough that your cigarette butts are soy sauce soaked well before they leave your mouth
  23. What happened to the old one? I liked him better haha
  24. I've come to the conclusion that Flytire is actually the most interesting man in the world, and he sits at home records himself and makes these gif's, because he has one for every situation. LOL EDIT: He got rid of the gif but I still think its him LOL
