  1. Dave G. I personally fish for trout here in Colorado if that helps!
  2. Have a quick question for you all! What are some of your most used materials? Now I don't mean things like hooks or thread as obviously those are used in all flies, but what other materials do you use the most. I am new to fly tying and I am hoping to buy some multi purpose materials that can be used to tie many different patterns. Please also put what kind of fish you tie for and use those materials for the most! Thanks!
  3. I did sadly miss the Fly fishing show in Denver. However I did get to go to the Sportsman's expo on Friday. They had some incredible deals on fly rods and reels at the kirks and I ended up getting a Helios 2 rod from Orvis as well as a Lamson reel! Nothing in the way of tying materials per say but non the less they had some great deals on gear!
  4. Hi guys! I live in the Denver area and I was wondering if anyone knew of any fly tying events/conventions here in Colorado. I have heard that you can find some great deals on hackle and other more expensive materials at some of the fly tying conventions Which would be very helpful for my tight budget. Your help is much appreciated!
  5. I am located in the littleton area.
  6. Carpflyguy, a few questions for you! 1) Do I just make however many fly's as there are people in the swap? 2) Where can I find your address to send you the fly's? 3) Do I receive others fly's back in that same box that I used to send you the fly's? Thanks, I'm very excited to get tying and sharing it with you guys!
  7. Hi guys I am brand new around here and this swap thing seems pretty sweet. I'm getting a vice, tools, and materials for Christmas so I don't even have a way to tie yet (Ha) but I was wondering if I could join up. When do we have to send our fly's in? If it is at least a week after Christmas day then I would love to try this out!
  8. Thank you all so much for all of the suggestions. They are all much appreciated. puting together all of the ideas I have decided to buy a crown spring tension Vice http://www.basspro.com/White-River-Fly-Shop-Crown-Spring-Tension-Vise/product/10220904/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions# and a tool set from Dr. Slick https://www.amazon.com/Slick-Tying-Tools-Gift-Combo/dp/B002WS3CH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480471836&sr=8-1&keywords=Dr+slick+set . I plan to buy materials for a Zebra midge, pheasant tail, and hairs ear. Again thanks to all who gave there opinions and help!
  9. P.S I live in Colorado and trout are the only species I target.
  10. Hi Guys! I am brand new around here and was hoping some of you veterans could help me out. I am very interested in learning to tie fly's and I had a few questions on how to get started. 1) If you were to do it all over again, what things would you buy ( vice, misc. tools, materials, ext.) What would you not buy? 2) Do you have a preferred place to purchase you tools/materials? 3) How would you recommend learning new patterns/techniques? ( You tube, fly tying books, forums, ext.) Thank you so much for your time. It really means a lot to me and I very much appreciate it.
