Love grayling. Would love to catch one some day. They use to be a native fish here many years ago but last one caught here was over 100 yrs ago.
If you ever come up, let me know. I can help. They are very fun to catch and plentiful up here. On this trip we had several double hook-ups and caught 20-30 fish per hole.
I've often thought it was a shame that there were no grayling in Grayling Michigan.
-
Are they good eating?
They are delicious but they do not freeze well. They are best fried straight out of the river.
-
Those are pretty cool fish with that big fin.
I love grayling, a friend of mine, a retired fisheries biologist guided for the new world record grayling about 6 years ago. A grayling that weighed over five lb's. Now that's truly a trophy. It was released unharmed. My best grayling ever was just under 20 inches long. On this trip we caught them up to sixteen inches.

Personally, I think it IS a big deal when a seller lists a particular item and shows a picture of a different item. It is easily fixed and I can think of no good reason for the seller to continue with the misrepresentation. I buy and sell lots of things on ebay and have a 100 percent feedback rating (it's not hard to do). Though it doesn't sound bad, 99.6 is actually not a very good rating.
It really doesn't matter how much money a buyer stands to save, there is a difference in the two vises. Either the seller should fix it or state that the vise pictured is not the vise he is selling.
The listing is misleading (I have bought things solely from the picture, not smart, but I have done it) It should be fixed. I am reporting the listing and contacting the seller.
That's how I see it.

A moose hunt was the excuse to be there, really, we didn't need the meat and were content on just catching grayling. I always say the best way to ruin a perfectly good float trip is to shoot a moose. The trip was shortened by a fast river and one of the airstrips being washed out.
Ed in the back ground. An average Beaver Creek Grayling.
They were hitting everything....
from dry flies like this Parachute Royal Coachman and Light Cahills wet flies like G.R.H.E.s and soft hackles.
We had a great time. The weather was bright and sunny the whole time in the 50's to the seventies. Besides the great fishing we saw a black wolf, a sow black bear with two cubs and a cow moose. We didn't see another human after the first day.

Salmon can be caught in the ocean with classic fly gear, no down rigger, and no extra weight.
This silver and others were caught in Seward on my boat, the Non-Pelagic Squid, on a fly I call the Salmon Fork Smolt.
Nice fish Tier. Salmon on fly gear is a blast. I'm sure you could do it off of Alison Point.

I caught and kept a 19 inch rainbow one time that had a line hanging from his vent. When I cleaned him the hook was in his stomach. The hook wasn't corroded very much but the wound was healed around the hook. The fish appeared to be healthy in every way.

I got back early from my trip. A washed out landing strip and a fast running river made it into a five day trip instead of the original 11 days. Still, it was terrific. The water was crystal clear, the fish were really biting and the weather was unbelievable. We saw a cow moose, three black bears and a black wolf. Didn't see a bull moose to shoot but it's just as well. Had a great time. "pictures at eleven"

Im told it takes a day to dress and haul out a moose. Good luck and have fun!
There have been times it has taken three days to dress and haul out a moose, but I don't do it that way anymore. Now I only shoot them if I can get my raft right up to them. It's more about catching grayling, I'm bringing my 2/0 wt and two other rods. We'll catch 100 fish a day. There's also sheefish and pike.
I already feel lucky because I'm so fortunate to do it. Thanks a lot, Mark

Argus pheasant feathers are very popular with the classic tiers. They marry well with other feathers. I have some secondarys that are twice that size , and have made some great flies over the years. I think you will find it a challenge to accomplish what you have in mind, but from what Ive seen in your progression, youll get it done
I'm going to be gone for a little while on a float trip but I'd love to see a picture of your feathers.

Leaving on a twelve day float trip for graying and moose in the morning. The best way to ruin a perfectly good fishing trip is to shoot a moose. Talk to you all when I get back.

Mark: Some sort of pheasant? Would make some nice wings.
And now we have moderators posting girly pictures? Huh.
Argus Pheasant Tertial Wing Feathers. I paid $79.00 for them and I couldn't be happier. Yep, nice wings and eyeballs.
And I like the girl too.

Were you also able to pluck some pterodactyl Cul De Canard? Images are just running through my mind. Out images out.

Got an evelope in the mail today from Joe Herndon, Thanks Joe, I appreciate it.

I don't have any "cool" feathers. I just have a Whiting Starter Pack, or some such name.I'm ready for her, when's she coming. I have to comb my hair.

Here are some really cool feathers I found on ebay. I'm going to use them for eyeballs on some really big streamers for pike in fresh water and ling cod and halibut in salt.
They are 23 inches long and they were expensive but look at all those eyeballs.
Now I'd like to see some of your cool feathers and tell me what you use them for.

Wishing you well, hunker down. Come back on as soon as you can when Dorian is gone so we know you are OK.

Norm, the only thing I see that's less than your normal quality is the eye. There must be subtleties that I don't see.

Things that go neglected just get worse and cost more later on
Not always, Doctor told me I had a heart murmur once and said it would cost $2,200.00 to check it out on his new EKG machine. Being self employed I didn't have insurance that would cover it at the time so I just ignored it. On the next exam the heart murmur was gone, the Doc. even forgot he had found one six months earlier. Had made no notes about it.
I learned a very valuable lesson, ignore your problems and they go away.

That's pretty cool.

Lots of nice flies showing up from some of my favorite tiers.

who would ever have thought that cleaning/organizing/rearranging my computers' hard drive(s) would be such a nightmare!
files over here, files over there, files with nothing in them, moving from one hard drive to a portable hard drive
backup this, backup that!
oh well its almost done
still waiting on the deck contractor to do his magic on refurbishing my deck. sometime after labor day
You sure are organizing and fixing things up a lot. I ain't that way so much, but I admire it in others.

I understand, now.
I guess I use a combination of my stripping hand, (my whole hand) and the rod to set the hook. I'm not sure if I do it right or not. I haven't broken any rods on the hook sets, so I guess I'm OK.
I have seen the shark skin lines, don't own any yet. One of my close friends swears by them, he's a fly casting instructor and a real expert at it (I am not).
-
Ah, so it's not for an injury, it's to prevent injury. What happens if you don't use a stripping guard? I can't say I've ever heard of one.

Well, he is picturing a higher priced vise than the one is selling (according to his description). To me, that's a misrepresentation.
Isn't it the same as if you bought the vise off of the shelf (in the box) and when you got it home the vise pictured on the box was not in the box. Instead there was a less expensive version in the box.
It's an easy thing to fix, he should fix it. It's also the reason he's had trouble in the past.
