  2. To bad CB's arent' popular anymore their antennas would double as a nice spey rod
  3. Red have you looked through the fly database. I'm sure some other guys will have some better suggestions for ya since i'm mostly a "cold water" fisherman myself, but i know i have done well on crappies with white jigs so i would take a look at luvinbluegills fly in the data base called the "nottabugger".It imitates a small baitfish and i think it would work well on crappies. Plus he said it is tied with one pc of marabou so it would be easy to tie. SD
  4. Rubber bands? never tried that but sounds interesting. Do you color or dye the rubber bands??
  5. WOW John i have never seen that before!
  6. Thanks Jim i'll check it out.....i'm just lookin for a little different patteren because tying flies for steelies i like to sit down and tie a bunch of each patteren for each trip,so it just gets a little boring tying a ton of the same patteren and i only have mainly one stone that i am good at tying right now so i want to try some different styles of stones just to break up the manotany at the vice SD
  7. I use alot of different patterns here in michigan for steelhead from late fall through the spring but it seems like i always use one fly more perdomanently more than the rest,a black stone fly in a size#14. I seem to tie it the same way all the time just a basic patteren, goose biot split tail, ribbed body, tan dubbed thorax and a turky wing case....but i would like to try experimenting a bit with the stone patteren and wondered if anyone has a patteren that they tie a little differently than the norm that they would be willing to share with me? SD

  10. QUOTE (SpentWing @ Nov 7 2003, 03:22 PM) Just seems a lot more friendly here. Mike I think i've clicked on over there maybe twice in the last month but it seems like the always about to hit the fan over there.....maybe it's not but it just feels that way anymore.Right before i came over here i said somthing in a reply over there just in passing about salmon in the clinton and about got my head handed to me by a "few" guys that must OWN the clinton. I had no idea that you where not supposed to talk about the clinton, why is there a forum for it then?? Nuff about that, like spentwing said it's much more friendly here and i'm glad to see some of you guys have not only come over here to check this site out but have decided to stay.

    Fishing bamboo

TB i never have had the chance to cast a bamboo but have always wanted to see how they feel. Theres two things that have always keep me from buying one though, first is the price and second is from what i have heard from guys that own them you have to do a fair deal of "upkeep" on bamboo to keep it in good condition. still would like to cast one someday! SD
  12. QUOTE (Big Daddy Hubbard @ Nov 7 2003, 03:06 PM) that'll teach 'em!!! Jim, Yeah seems like trouble has a fondness for me lately...gotta change the circle I'm in....too old for all this drama and shit.... Chris have you tried your local YWCA they might have a needle point class you could site in on and get some pointers for your "tip of the day"! I got alot to do tonight so i had to get one in before i sign off for the evening! SD
  13. kinda the reason i have been watchin these classic flies striblue has been posting smallie,i do alot of stripping streamers outa my boat for browns and the streamers we use are big so i've been keeping an eye on these salty patterens and gettin some ideas! SD
  14. ....rotflmao sorry will the best way to explain that is.....FAST AS HELL! SD
  15. Hey striblue these classic flies are great and i'm enjoying seeing them, but for somone like myself who has yet to try saltwater i dont have a clue as to what species each fly is/was used to fool. How about a little info for those of us like myself that are as of yet "saltwater challenged " great job on this forum striblue.....your flies are amazing! SD
  16. Just thought i'd try to help everyone to get to know each other a little better so thought i'd ask what else besides tying/fishing do you do in your free time? When i'm not fishing/tying you can find me in my garage workin on my 69 GTO. I've been building it for about the last four years now and hope to have it done by this upcomming summer. I have been into building/racing muscle cars since i was about 16 yrs old and living 1 mile from woodward ave. here in michigan i spend every weekend that i'm not on a river up on woodward enjoying the cruisin that the woodward dream cruise has brought back to this area. Heres a couple pics of my goat after four years it's got all tube frame, fiberglass body, funnycar roll cage,dana60,4:56 spool,tubbed,slicks,632cid with 8/71 blower. The winters are long here in the great white north so it gives plenty of time to work in the garge when the snows flyin! So lets here what else you like to do with your time??? SD

    Knots??

Same here,i use the improved clinch knot the most. If i remember, back when i first learned this knot was around 84-85' on a episode of billy westmoreland and he called it the "trilene knot". SD
  21. Sorry to hear that BD,but i know how ya feel. My last three relationships started out with "Well i'm divorced"....yeah right come to find out they were only separated and not even divorced yet! (and that was the case for all three) The one thing i have learned in the last 5 years is this.........My fly rod will never lie to me,never cheat on me and will always be there when i want to take it for a quicky Unlike a women! Good luck bud! SD
  22. QUOTE (SmallieHunter @ Nov 5 2003, 09:27 AM) That's weird I also carry $200 in a ziploc bag. Yeah but i can describe mine....the vest had pockets, the money was green and the bag was clear SD

    Knots??

I have the same problem smallie it usally takes me about 2 somtimes 3 trys till i gat a nail knot that i am happy with. I have gone with the loop to loop conectors for about the last year or so now,it takes all the trouble out of it esp. when its -10 below and your out fishing for steelies or when your salmon fishing and have fish right in front of you and get excited and cant tie a knot to save your life!
