  1. Man, I'm loving this deer hair I just picked up! It spins on nicely but does have a tendancy to be a little brittle towards the root! ~Brett
  2. Hey guys thought I'd drop about a 3.5 minute video for you all! I don't care for posting on any of the other network sites! Please don't remove the video, and yes it links to another fly fishing site! Hook.TV, I'm posting it here because this is one of the only forums that I use out of the network. I've had issue's posting video's to my blog site in the past being refferred to as "Spam!" So I'm not linking to my blog but rather a fly fishing video web based site! I hope that cures the problem I had last time! Further, I'd like to say that I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from this forum and just wished to show people what information sharing is capable of! http://www.hook.tv/player.php?key=BEC980801121AA9E Cheer's to the Fly Tying Forum! ~Brett
  3. Possible Cahill? It has the appearance of a little yellow quill too! It would tie nicely on a size 14 TMC 100, as for reference in size! Sorry I killled the wing, which now I'm figuring out might be important if it's a Cahill! Here's a few other good reference pics I managed that day! Thanks in advance for the id! I only need the top one id'd!
  4. Ulf, I usually never say much on here and I've been lurking for about 3 years seldomly posting. It's funny because I have an order to the way I browse this site. Coldwater, Realistic, Fly Tying Bench, and every now and again The Beginners. I'm always looking for that one special fly that must go in the box, it doesn't happen very often, but I usually get some good ideas or see a new technique. I get a ton of ideas from the Coldwater section and a few from every other section. I usally get pretty excited to see your name bearing a new thread in the realistic forum! But I have to say that your tying skills impress me more than any other. I'm not saying that I don't like what everyone else is doing, but your ties appear simplistic and more realistic. I enjoy the thought of realistic marvels, but I'm the type of person that would crack the little glass case and take the fly with me! Your use of foam, never ceases to amaze me and makes for what appears to be a really simple tie! Cheers to your simplistic realistics! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: ~Brett PS-Don't ever quit using foam! :yahoo:
  5. Yes, yes! A little success! I did figure a thing or two out today though! It must float! And it needs something else! It's definately gotta be tied on a 2487 hook! And I need some high floating black foam! Someone please let me know! What kinda foam do they use on a Phase Two? That's what I'm needing! I'm also thinking of adding some CDC for some wing budding action! It was a tough day on a local tailwater in Tennessee, the South Holston. For those of you all whom have fished it, that's hard to say. But for the past three weeks it's been in that transitional stage. Fish trying to find their home for the year, and really trying to figure out if it's time to fatten up! Three tough weeks up there, hope it turns around soon! I spent most of my day guiding my brother in law through the wringer! It was just tough all the way around..However this lil bug seemed to do the trick in the morning hours when we had some cloud cover! When the BWO's were in force, so was my lil bug! It worked dropped short off a dry 12" to 15"! It only caught fish within the first few feet of a drift though! So I learned quick to keep the dropper short and the cast's dry to keep the bug in the film! Here's a hero shot! Not much of one from a fish stand point! My brother in law with a brownie! A good shot of that fly after it's done it's job! Today's unfortunate average catch! Bummer! Thanks for everyone's advice! ~Brett
  6. They most certainly are 18's indeed...I forgot to mention that! What you can't pick up in the picture is the ribbing, which I'm sure you'll be able to pick out, once it hits the water! It's also tied on a 2457 hook, which is 2x heavy...not exactly an emerger hook! But like I said it's a prototype. I'm thinking, dry dropper about 15" off the dry! I don't know but we'll see!
  7. I started out on a search for the best BWO pattern for a certain beloved tail water I fish frequently year round. However, I've been getting skunked on cold overcast days! I just can't find the right BWO nymph pattern and I know that's what their eating. I get an occasional take on a rather small green midge and begin to wonder if they are mistaking it for a BWO nymph! I've pumped at least one fish on every trip and wind up with a bunch of shucks! Here's that shot. Not only do I get shucks I also manage quite a few nymphs as well! I've thought up an idea based off of another gentleman's fly and put a portion of it to work on this fly. I'm wanting it in the film, I think, and have used a foam back for this fly! Well the rest is up for you all to decide! I probably shouldn't have used black microfibbets, but that's all I had! I really wanna add a spouting, or budding wingcase out of the foam somehow! I think I've got an idea or two but wanted some suggestions. I plan on fishing them tommorrow and will report back here! Gimme some ideas guys! ~Brett
  8. Ulf, what are you using for your legs....I'm loving this pattern and the ant as well and scratching my head on how you've perfected making those legs! I'm not much into tying realistics...Or at least unfishable realistics that are time consuming! But, I would still love to tie some of these up for my little girl and put em' in some kind of display case for her! You, and the guys on this board have some mad skills! How's the abdomen of that fly look? Bet it's awesome can't wait to see more pictures! ~Brett
  9. Man, great tying...Oaka's response is probably the best idea..but you can't see it up close! I have an idea but can't really put it into words! Do you have a display case with other flies in it? You could mount them in the top of the display where they couldn't really be seen...Then take a small piece of mirror and mount it to the bottom of the display so that you could veiw what's hiding in the top of the display case....I hope that kinda makes sense!?! ~Brett
  10. Graham, Your work is spectacular, as we all know. I will, however, go on to state that this gentleman needs to be made an example of. I'm sure you have logged onto his web page in reference to his book. The "About the author" section, is well, a photo journal of his wealth and arrogance. Profile pictures of himself in ultra cheesy suits. VSJ (Versache Jeans Co.) and two peice suits sitting in a beautiful remote setting some where out east. The man, apparently, has some money to be spent and, I'm sure, we all sit here wondering if your the first one he's done this to. I wouldn't even find this as a form of flattery, mearly some rich foriegn dude getting rich off of other peoples hard labor. Extremist group or not he's not setting a good example for those who read his books...One of the fundamentals taught to me in school was about copywrighting....I seem to remember this all the way back to my first trip to the library in first grade...Although this isn't words we are refering too it still beckon's the ol phrase "A Picture is worth a thousand words." Either way, I would definately seek legal advice and possibly spend some more of you hard earned money web embossing all of your photo's that you stick on your site. At least this way if someone wanted to steal another picture they would have to go about it the hard way...Paying for it or possibly (my favorite) just plain ol asking for it! Graham, we all appreciate your hard work and keep it up brother! I hope this has it's way of working itself out! Who knows, maybe this idiot will offer up his book as a settlement! If your lucky you'll get it personally autographed. What a moron....I'm done venting for you! ~Brett
  11. I've been doing a little research on a fly I'm wanting to tie...You just hooked me up brother...That's the exact color combo I've been looking for...What kind of nymph skin are you using and color if you don't mind me asking? Brett
