FL H2O 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 That's not too far from here. I haven't been there in a long time and I don't know how much of the hurricane they got, but I can tell you for February in this area you'll probably want to target Redfish with an 8-10 wt. (especially if you can find a nice grass flat teeming with crabs) or Spotted trout (4-6 wt.) hanging around docks and shallow drop- offs, as those 2 are pretty much year 'round residents and it will be kind of early for a lot of other gamefish. I think these are good bets for you assuming you'll be wading the salt. Of course if you want to up your odds one thing Florida has plenty of is fishing guides, I've never taken advantage of one, but I'd be lying if I said I don't feel a little jealous at the sight of a flats boat
Guest Report post Posted June 7, 2005 I was in Panama City a couple of years ago, but it was in Sept. It can get pretty cold up there, so bring your waders. I don't know if there is a fly shop in PC, at least I didn't see one while I was there. Google for fishing guides in that area even if you aren't going to hire one. You can get an idea of what to expect while you're there.
MIKE*A 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 as was previously mentioned, it can get chilly up there in Feb. There is a pretty good fly shop back across the bridge in P.C., I will try to dig up the name for you. He does offer a guide service and fishes primarily in the back bay. There is a good fishing shop in P.C. Beach that has a very informative website. It.s half hitch tackle (www.halfhitch.com) They have weekly reports updated every Friday. If i remember correctly, you can get into their archived reports for the past several years so that might help you out some.....They have a very limited amount of fly tackle.......next to nothing really......The nice thing about that area is if the salt is rough, there are a lot of spring fed rivers to fish.....I'll try to get you some more info. later. tidbit 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 Mike, Troutbum, FL, Thanks you all very much. I know that is probably not a good time to go to Flordia: but, I'll miss the tourist season and that is "ok" with me. And an added plus---cost is less. I'll keep looking for any additional information you care to pass along. Again THANKS, tidbit

kenneyk 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Wait a month or two and you'll be in prime time for kingfish, pompano, cobia, spanish mackeral, and red snapper!
FL H2O 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Yea, no doubt better action then. but, a lot of people seem to think that in winter every single fish in the shallows heads out to the intercoastal waterway and it's not worth fishing at all. That's cool, let 'em believe it. Not true though, I've heard salty old types attribute it to the net ban.
oldsocks 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2005 I think you'll be pleasently suprised at the fishing in PC during Feb. There are reds on the grass flats and the bite is not a early/late bite. I've caught reds tailing at 2:00 in the afternoon during Feb in PC.
