rawfish 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 A lot of books and recipes use specific model numbers to delineate which hooks to use. Is there some type of chart I could use to translate into a generic type/size?
Alex C. 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Yup there are a few different hook comparison charts out there. If you do asearch in the fly tying bench for something like "hook chart" you should find what you're looking for. I'd do it for ya and post a link to one of the previous threads, but I'm at work and the computer here is sloooooooow!

rawfish 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Thanks Al and everyone. I'm still not used to asking questions and having the people write the book answer me Thats not how it is in law school. Its truly an honor.

Here's a good one: http://www.flyfishingjournal.com/fly_tying/hook1.htm I did a little more digging and found another better one: http://www.albertabowriver.com/hook_comparison_charts.htm Mike
Luke 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Why are there never any charts with the Mustad Signature hooks on them? Are all of these charts from before Mustad came out with these? I was just wondering.
Al Beatty 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Hi Luke, Go to www.mustad.no click on "Fish Hooks" then click on "Signature Fly Hooks" There you will find a chart of their hooks and what dimensions each has - shank length, wire diameter, eye style, etc. Tight Lines - Al Beatty www.btsflyfishing.com
letumgo 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 rawfish - Here is a link to one of the most useful chart I've found for different types of hooks from the major suppliers. I printed out a copy of this and had it laminated as a handy reference on my bench. If I can not find a specific hook, I simply look up a similar model from another company. http://www.anglersportgroup.com/pdfs/fly_tyers_guide.pdf
Gregg A 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Excellent post rawfish. I often wondered about a chart but was too lazy to find one. Thanks Al and letumgo for the links. They are now copied and ready for my bench. I bought some beads that had a little chart showing what size beads fit what size hooks. That sure makes life easier, not to mention that it has saved my fingers from trying to figure out what fits.
Luke 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Al - Thanks for the link. Now all I have to do is take one of the other charts and add the Mustad Signature info.
