oatka 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2006 ...With visions of deer hair tails dancing in my head... So, I've decided, for now, to tie up the Foamulator. After seeing it in the Hatches magazine link image for a month I figured it would be a good pattern to tie. I tied one up the other day and thought it turned out ok. So, last night, and then again at 3:30am this morning, I packed up just what I needed to tie those into a small bag and brought them to work. I had visions of deer hair tales dancing in my head. See, this is my first swap, and the first time ever that I think I'll be tying more than 2, maybe 3, flies of the same pattern in a row. So, I thought I'd bring the stuff to work and at least tie on the deer hair tails today and then do the rest of the fly later. Well, first I had to test it out on the other hook I picked out. Well, I only have about 2 hours alone before someone shows up and could possibly catch me tying at work. I got a late start and figured I would have about 1.5 hours to tie. I tied up 1 complete foamulator and then the maintainence guy came in and started to vaccuum. I quickly shoved my vise in the drawer. He stopped by, see today is his last day, and we got talking....for a while. Next thing I know, my tying time is up and I had to pack it all away. :ripped: So I still have visions of deer hair tails dancing in my head. Today, after I put together my daughters new "big girl bed" :baby: I hope to tie up a bunch! :yahoo:

Faster Fish 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 I decided on the fly to tie. It is going to be the panfish blaster. Hope there are some warm water fishers in this swap. This thing kills the panfish during the summer. Just have to run to the store to get the foam and hooks. Cheers Randy
oatka 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Faster Fish, I fish in warm water probably more than I do in cold water. There's a convenience to being gone for 1 hour and fishing for 50 minutes of that, that I just don't get when the drive to the cold water is 1/2 an hour minimum plus time to wader up. I look forward to your flies. If you are going to buy the foam, you may want to consider a second job. I went and got 3 sheets of it, that could last me a lifetime, and had to shell out a whopping $1.

oatka 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2006 Well, they are done! I have the world's best deer hair stacking expert living in my house so things went smoothly and I was able to tie them all up yesterday and today. This has got to be the first time I tied 12 of the same flies at the same time. I took just the materials and tools I needed and put them in a travel bag with my vise. I took that to work, tied up 1 test one, then tied at the kitchen table for the rest. It was kind of nice tying with just the stuff I needed and not all the other junk hanging out and getting into the way. I've attached a few pictures. The Worlds Greatest Deer Hair Stacker, Brooke! Here's one of her and I blow drying the head cement. For whatever reason, I put my hand behind the fly (backdraft maybe) so she copied me. And one of the final flies. Addy please!
