Dble Haul 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2007 Don't pay any attention to the articles "Bunny Split" and "Tooth and Nail".....that author doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. You could check out the pattern database here on this site too.

Alex C. 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2007 Check out a book by Barry Reynolds called "Mastering Pike on the Fly", it's got a good selection of good flies with pictures and recipes for them. Plus it's got a few tons of really great information on their behavior traits, habitat preferences, presentation tips, etc. There's just a whole lot of really good information in it. I got a 10wt this fall for pike and saltwater. I guess the local rivers and a few of the lakes have some gret pike/musky fishing and I plan on throwing some monster flies in the 12"-16" range. Then I wanna also have a descent selection of streamers i the 6"-10" range. Patterns will be stuff like bouface's, meat whistles, bunnyceivers, and divers. I'll tie them in pink/white, chartresue/red, yellow/red, black/red, purple/black and all white. Then some stuff to match baitfish. I got a bunch of unique hair and EP fibers too and want to tie a box of saltwater type flies. I also really like the looks of those foam head streamers. Not sure how'll they'll cast though, but they sure look cool
Sean Juan 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2007 The Plipper is pretty interesting looking - especially the placement of the hook. Like many people I've always enjoyed using frog, mouse, and other topwater patterns but never found them to be all that good for hooking up. That hook seems to be almost an entire body length away from the action.
Philly 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2007 This is the style I use for pike. Light for its size, doesn't absorb water, nice action, fairly easy to tie, and some nice colors available in the material I use. I tie various sizes(3 to 8 inches) and color combinations, though this is one of my favorite color combinations.
