Gideon 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2007 I have been looking for a pair of bench scissors that the Fly shops cannot seen to indenify. Last sighting was on a video: Tying streamers / A. K. Best - They are short blade spring loaded, green plastic handles with a bodkin in the thumb loop. Does anyone know who makes these things and/or where they can be found?? :dunno:
Redwings1 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2007 I forget the name, but do know what you are talking about. I got a pair at a local craft store in the sewing section.
JoeBillingsley 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2007 Gideon, I believe they are the Wiss clips. I have a pair and they are terrific. Here's a link: http://www.stoneriveroutfitters.com/cgi-bi...p;preadd=action Joe
Rangerman 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 The bodkin is something that you will have to add to the Wiss clips after the fact. The clips do not come standard with the bodkin. AK goes into great detail on these scissors in "Production Fly Tying". You can find these clips at some fly shops and catalogs but they will be significantly cheaper at sewing stores. Curtis Fry 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 I forget the name, but do know what you are talking about. I got a pair at a local craft store in the sewing section. Just hope you didn't fork out $25 bones for them: http://www.elexp.com/tol_570b.htm or https://www.southstarsupply.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=1902 I bought my original pair from a sewing shop for about $8. You can also buy the replacement blades in bulk. My only complaint is that I go through blades at the rate of about two sets a year. No biggie, but still the best scissors on the planet. flytyingscotsman 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Word of warning, don't settle for the sewing shop imitation, get the real Wiss deal. I bought a pair of Fiskars, which operate the same way that the Wiss ones do. They are actually quite good scissors (very sharp), but the blades will splay apart when they are called upon to do any kind of medium to heavy duty job (they failed miserably for deer hair clipping for example). Inconnu 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2007 I agree with Flytyingscotsman, I had a pair of Fiskars (and I'm a fan of Fiskars) but they wouldn't do the job I needed on flies so they went into my wifes' sewing basket....now ain't that a little backwards? No doubt about that. I've tried close to 5 other brands of the same style and NONE come close to the Wiss. You can't beat $8 either...
