streamer examples

Hi,

 

I would like to learn how to tie streamers. I would like to buy some streamer flies by mail order that are tied will and have to correct proportions. ie grey ghost spruce fly. Any recommendations?

Welcome to the site. If you are just looking for shots to compare your flies to as you tie then I would take a look at the fly database here as ther are countless pictures of well tied streamers. If you want streamers in the classic Rangeley style take a look at:

Both have Gray Ghosts that I think are beautiful. I'm not sure either ties a Spruce Fly, however. I would suggest buying a copy of Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing by Joseph Bates. It has hundreds of streamer patterns, most with photos of flies either tied by the originators of the pattern or by tyers who learned the pattern directly from the originator. They should be as close to "correct proportions" as you can get - and not always as they are usually tied today (the Muddler Minnow for example).
