flyfishingboys 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2004 Hi, with the first day of spring arriving this morning (it missed us though, still had to get the snow shovel out this morning) I can wait to get the rod out for some bluegills. Looking for your suggestions on what your favorite bluegill pattern is.

Guest Report post Posted March 21, 2004 I usually us a Notorious Nymph(Usually black, though sometimes olive, yellow, or brown). I've found that when sight-fishing and/or fish are just nipping around, a diamondback scud works pretty well too.
Guest Report post Posted March 21, 2004 For early season bluegills, bream, crappie, I have excellent luck with a Carter's Dragon tied in black with a grizzly hackle collar. Let me know if you're not familiar with this pattern and need the receipe. Jim Smith

Guest Report post Posted March 22, 2004 I use just a red tailed spider, as I call it. It`s just black chenille tied on the hook, with 2 pieces of rubber legging on each side. Oh, and I forgot to tell you, before you wrap the chenille, tie in a small clump of red marrabou. The fish thinks it`s either gills or blood, and they attack it! -redneck

Fishboy 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 I really like Sanchez's Swamp Monster after fishing it a lot last year...but when it gets close to sunset I almost always tie on a popper, foam spider, or slider. Derek
