tightlines 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2004 I seem to be able to find information on caddis in the larval stage and caddis in the adust stage, but I would like to tie up some emerging green caddis flies if I could see what one looks like. Thanks in advance
Philly 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2004 A standard soft hackle would work for a caddis emerger. Partridge and Olive, Partridge and Chartruese. You might look at a CDC and Elk. I've found this to be a very effective caddis pattern, fished dry or wet.
lanvaettir 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Here's an easy to tie example of a soft hackle I found on Westfly. If you tie a small green glass bead under the eye they work even better. Good luck!
Guest Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Hi Tightlines. I found a wet fly pattern in the Summer, 2002 issue of the Flyfishing and Tying Journal that is an effective caddis emerger imitation. The name of the fly is the "Hare & Peacock". The following is the recipe from the magazine: Hook: Mustad 3906B, size 8 - 18 Thread: Black Weight: Optional lead-free wire. 5 - 6 turns wrapped at the bend of the hook. Tail: Coachman barbs or light gray yarn if a shuck is used. Rib: Gold oval tinsel Body: PrismFlash dubbing, SLF Peacock iridescent mix Wing: Rabbit (hare) fur any color, black, brown, tan, olive, or dun. Head: Black lacquered thread, shaped. About two eye lengths long. If you would like the tying instructions, and you have a fax machine available, send me the number and I'll fax youi the instructions.
