TimRussell 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Hey guys, I made a BIG mistake today. The fish have seemingly had lockjaw the past few days and I figured it would be no different today so I just grabbed my spinnin rod with a few slower movin lures to try and tempt the inactive bass. Boy was I ever wrong. I was soon wishin I had my fly rod and here is why.... I got to the private pond and started fishing a buzzbait. Well I didnt catch nuthin as I expected so I moved down the dock a lil ways. What I saw took my breath away. There where practically THOUSANDS of baitfish swimming around in thick clouds and you couldnt even see the bottom because of it. Now that wasnt so bad but when I saw what was under them made it worse. There where hundreds of Bass of all sizes feeding like crazy on the bait. The top of the water looked like a sheet of exploding water from all the feeding bass. These whernt just lil tiny bass either they where anywhere from 2"-8lbs. I know 8lbs sounds like alot for a pond but this pond has always produced BIG fish but I never figured they where as big as I was seein them now. I tried a LARGE variety of lures including everything minus the kitchen sink . I eventually caught one on a Red and Black Leverage Buzzbait that went about 2-3lbs. After that I called Dad on the cell phone and he hurried down to the pond with his rodnreel. He caught three on a wobblehead worm and one on a beetlespin. I was really wishing I had my fly rod because the fish I did catch would of been one HECKUVAFIGHT! Unfortunatley dumb ol me didnt think they would be bitin the fly today . Anyways you can bet your bottom dollar I wont go fishin without the fly rod handy anymore . I just wanted to share my day with yall even though dumb ol me didnt have a fly handy . lol ttyl and tight lines.-Tim PS:Here are some pics of fish we caught.
