tanning a rooster hide

Recommended Posts

I don't believe you will find anything on "tanning" a chicken skin. My advise is to scrap all of the fat and flesh off and rub it with borax.

I'd say bigdewey has it right: remove the flesh and fat (scraping with a knife or spoon), rub with Borax and let the skin dry, keeping it flat. Repeat the process (scraping/rubbing/drying) once or twice until the skin is nice and dry. Some people also rub Borax into the feathers to kill potential parasites.

I wouldn't mess with formadehyde.
