stillfishin 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 What is a "Dry Fly"?
Chase Creek 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 A dry fly is a fly that floats. Wet flies are sub-surface flies, they sink (anywhere from just below the surface to right on the bottom). Depending on the materials and construction, dry flies might need a little help in staying afloat, like some type of floatant. Hope that helps a little. atroutbum2 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2009 it is a fly designed to be fished on ,or in , the surface of the water. it usually used in refrence to flies tied for trout, but dries can be tied for other types of fish. there are diffrent styles of dry flies, traditional catskill style, parachute, comparadun, just to name a few. some are named for the materials used in making the fly, such as the elk hair caddis, foam grasshopper, cdc emerger, deer hair popper (bass bug )and so on
