Tarpon Flies

Recommended Posts

Been around for a while and just found the saltwater section :headbang: . I've been playing with some tarpon flies to throw at the pike this summer. I have high hopes for this one.

Mustag 34007 3/0 hook

bead chain eyes

saddle and grizzly hackles

Very light weight and should be a blast to fish.

Good looking fly! I also really like that style of fly, & I've used Tarpon fly patterns for many years as bass flies! They work great too, particularly in the tidal waters that I fish the most! I just tie them on straight shank worm hooks instead of the heavier hooks used for Tarpon. I tie some on 3407's or 34007's also, just because I never know when I might hook into a Striped bass! <_<

Patterns with grizzly hackle have always been favorites! I've caught a lot of bass on "Cockroach" flies in various colors, and Pickerel like them too!

You should do well on Pike with that fly! :)

Great Tie!

I don't know about pike, but purple and purple and black are very popular for tarpon...and as you know the best patterns cross all kinds of water types.

That one is a keeper for sure, let us know how you do.

Looks great to me, Ian. I'm guessing the Pike won't

know it's a "tarpon fly". I'd also like to try one of those on

the monster stripers here on Lake Ouachita. Very nice.
