GWP 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2010 I know how to fish streamers and nymphs but I have never fished a wet fly. What is the common practice when fishing wet flies? I.e. dread drifting high in the water column, sink tip and fished near the bottom, stripped like a streamer????

Crackleback 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 A lot of people cast down and across and swing them then strip the fly back in. This definitely works but I think dead drifting works even better. I highly recommend the DVD Wet Fly Ways with Davy Wotton. I'm pretty sure there are some decent instructional videos on Youtube also. Mike

JohnP 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 The book "Wet Flies" by Dave Hughes has a section dealing with how to fish them. I highly recommend it, primarily for the tying instructions on soft hackles, flymphs, winged and wingless wets and nymphs, but his section on techniques is very good, too. Kid Cole 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2010 I fish my wets down and across 95% of the time. If a fish rises above me I will fish it up stream and let it dead drift down. I have caught them both ways. I just like fishing them down and across more: You feel the strike and even a small fish seems like it could rip the rod out of your arm and I find it more relaxing and enjoyable fishing "with the river". WET FLIES ARE THE BEST! Cole.
