i'm still torn on what pattern I want to do. Is it just any wet fly for trout? When I think wet fly I always come up with a soft hackle or would any nymph work? I am maybe thinking the stayner ducktail.

I'm done tying but I'm not done cutting! I got into this pattern last year and it is a killer! The first time I used it was on Chopaka lake in Eastern Washington. I thought I was in a bass tournament!!!!! I'd cast just off some reeds and you could see the fish coming for it for 5-6 feet! the reeds bent and the trout just blew it up in the air. :headbang: They hit it on top, in the film, 6"s down. 12' down, .....to the bottom. I don't know what they really think it is but they sure want to eat it!!!!! And I do want to point out that it is really 4 wraps!

This is before they get their hair cuts.

Enjoy

Mine are in the mail today. I tied up the St. Patrick. which seemed suitable for the upcoming holiday.

Flies will be in the mail tomorrow. Dropped my camera in the river so no pics but here's the recipe.

Hook: Daiichi 1550 #16

Thread/Body: Uni 8/0 olive dun

Hackle: Starling

Wing: Starling

They work best fished upstream. Kinda look like a drowned dun or cripple. I'll also hang them off a dry when I feel lazy.
