My first Prawn (Shrimp) pattern attempt

Recommended Posts

Its good fun trying new patterns and I found this one on the Australian Saltwater Fly Fishing Forum, its called 'Fishnuts Prawn Fly' and this was my first attempt. Whilst the tying is finished I am just waiting on some liquid fusion to arrive to coat the carapace.

Looks good Dave - you can use a lot of other stuff for the coating if you're in a hurry to try them out - nail polish, Flexament, silicone, etc.

Great looking fly, I too would like the pattern recipe.

The only suggestion that I would make would be to use a keel hook with tungsten wire on the keel portion, or you could use a 1/80 oz. jig hook, so that the fly rides hook up in the water, and not snag grass, weeds, etc.

No components to add weight? Does it have lead underwrap?

It does have a lead wire underwrap. Here is a link to the post by Dazz where he shares the two part video detailing materials and tying procedure.
