bead head to hook size

I am starting some small 18 and 20 flys and want to know what size of bead heads to use? And what color is better gold or copper?

This topic is fully covered in the Beginner section. There are some charts in the thread, second from the top. Some times copper is a little more money, so I usually just use gold. For copper, you can get some copper (flake there are other metallic also,) nail polish.

 

Only the fish can tell you which is better.

...As for which color is better, it depends on the barometric pressure, the phase of the moon, and what you had for breakfast the day before....

 

I use gold, silver, copper and black, all with good results ... sometimes. Nothing works all of the time, of course.

What pattern are you tying ?

 

Sometimes matching the color generally to the pattern coloration works, sometimes a constrast is good.
