Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2013 Got a Rhea Intruder Feather and wondering how to use it. First inclination is to cut strands off and put in dubbing loop. Kirk
terrymiller1973 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2013 This Squimpish fly is tied with Ostrich that was soaked but looking at my Rhea it could be used much the same way. Since the stem is much thinner then the ostrich
FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2013 I know a couple of ways, 1 is the soak and split/... palmer 1 split side like a hackle ,and the next is split thread, the other is stacking. Rhea is nice it won't matt like marabou, very keen to see what you are doing with it! Usually i just cut the strands off and either dubbing loop or stack. Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2013 Thanks fellas, I figured the stem was to thick to wrap sparsely. Danville's Flymaster Plus is my favorite for split thread dubbing. Mike, don't hold your breath, I've got a bunch of spoons to do for customers on top of other things; just thought I would pick this up while I was ordering some other stuff. Thanks, Kirk
FlyFishin'Jam 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2013 Yep a bigger thread like flat waxed and gsp is what you would use to secure it and make a split thread, also it can be used nicely as a longer flowing hackle in a fly, done well it can produce a very nice profile.
