Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2014 Leaving for a 3 day trip shortly to chase some chrome so pushed the rod wrapper aside and pulled out the vice. Spent the whole day watching movies, drinking coffee and refilling the Steelhead box with eggs and nymphs. Life is good!

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2014 Those are sucker spawn tied with krystal/diamond braid.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2014 Now I am totally mixed up. The flies look great, but ... I thought Steel Head were "chased" with large streamers and classics. Those all look like nymphs, eggs and bugs ... stream trout flies. I am NOT familiar with trout fishing, and I know YOU know what you're doing. But please clarify the fly selection criteria. Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2014 Out west they swing big flashy flies like bright streamers or the classic spey style flies for them. Some of those do work at certain times here in the Great Lakes as well, but the majority of GL Steelhead are caught on egg flies and nymphs under an indicator. Same as nymphing for trout only on a larger scale.
