You are correct, Tim. But "red eye bass" is another colloquial name for Rock Bass or Warmouth ... unless you're in Texas. That's where the true Red Eye Bass lives ... or at least, that's where I've caught them. Mostly in the streams near Houston. First one I caught really took me by surprise, because the eyes were bright red.

 

 

 

That's not mine, but it's exactly what I caught. I'd never seen a bass with red eyes before.

Yeah, up here in Ontario your bass are small mouth, largemouth, rock bass and if your in the great lakes white perch (temperate bass) and white bass.

We catch them all of the time. They're almost as mean as a green sunfish. Tasty, too.

 

Mike, I have never heard of those bass. Pretty wicked looking fish.

In Florida, the term goggle-eye refers to a type of saltwater bait fish caught and fished in off-shore depths for such as grouper, snapper, etc.
