Sedona, AZ ... October.... What to tie for this 'crick'?

Recommended Posts

Well, I'll be there n a week (OAK CREEK) and just may do a spot of fly fishing if I can find a few hours. So, what shall I tie in preparation? I'm seeing size 16, 18, ... maybe a 20 BWO.....

What else?

Hey dude!

Check this out: http://m.orvis.com/fishing_report.aspx?locationid=5923

Or this: http://www.perfectflystore.com/woakc.html

Between the two you should be set. Readers Digest Condensed Version says BWOs in 18-20, sedge and such. I'd recommend Bear's Baetis as it is an easy tie and very effective that small.

I was going to give you the snarky LMGTFY, but didn't want to come across as a complete Richard Cranium.

Keep it reel!

Here's a good site for a map and fish identification.

http://www.gf.state.az.us/h_f/documents/OakCreekfishingbrochure.pdf

This site is an advertisement for a product, but 90% of the page is all about fishing the area.

About half way down the page is a list of "best flies".

Good luck, B. Looking forward to some great pictures of the area AND fish!

LMAO.... I googled LMGTFY... didn't know what that meant! NOW i do. lol

And hey, in my defense, I DID GOOGLE it.(BEFORE I posted in the forum).. lol.

However I was hoping that there would be someone in the area that would see this and chime in with local expertise.

I did see the Perfect Fly site previous to posting - but thanks guys for the response! I did see that a bad head pheasant tail was one tie and just looked up the Simi Seal (leech apparently). Looks like some small BWOs will be in order to tie.

Thanks again guys for some response.

BCT,

I have a tying friend who has a home in Sedona and frequently fishes Oak Creek when she isn't at her other home in Idaho...

Here are her suggestions:

#16 thorax bwo. #16 Orange eh caddis hoppers, #18 hares ears and copper johns. Olive streamers.

This would be her:
PT/TB
