  1. My first tying bench was a "TV tray" I had around the house. It worked fine for a while, but didn't have any place to store/hold tools and materials. Now I've "advanced" to a roll around typing desk that works really well. My plan is to modify it with tool/material/thread holders. To me, it's too easy to find something around the house or garage or a flea market or yard sale (etc.) that you can modify to meet your needs. For the price you pay for a simple "fancy store bought" station, you can put together a really nice station that is like YOU want.... not someone else who designed the store bought ones.
  2. Uh.... Unplug them and take them off the tree before you stick a flame under them?
  3. "down" would be where exactly? Nice looking stream.....
  4. Those noises coming from your computer don't mean a lot.... it's that puff of blue smoke that indicates you have a problem......
  5. I actually have all four brands in my "arsenal" and use them all for different situations/flies. If I had to narrow it down, it would probably settle into Uni with Danville running a very close second.
  6. Jim2Flies, You were at the SCFFF Conclave in Mt Home, weren't you? I took some images of your flies. Was especially taken with the Cat in the Hat and the Nemo ones. Where is the clown one? It wasn't spun hair, but quite neat...... Did you do the ones that were in the shape and color of fish? I think there were some rainbow and some bass ones. You guys have taken this to the next level!!!
  7. Graham, je suppose que vous êtes le Québec ? (hmmm.... this alta vista thing is great!)
  8. I'm looking into building a tying station myself and I see some good ideas there. Great job!!!!!
  9. Hello all from the great fishing state of Arkansas!! I've fished ever since I was big enough for my grandfather to help me bait my hook, but I've only been fly fishing for a couple of years. I just started tying back in April of this year and am HOOKED!!! (no pun intended) I have the privilege of living in the state that bosts the worl record brown trout. I fish the Spring, Little Red, White, and North Fork rivers and am only an hour to two hours from each of them. I belong to the Northeast Arkansas Fly Fishers club www.neaff.com and get to fish with some really great guys who have taught me a lot! If you've never been to the FFF Southern Conclave in Mountain Home, AR, you have to plan on going next year. Lots of fly fishing stuff, lots of tiers, and 2 1/2 days of fly fishing just minutes away from the North Fork and White!! One day I hope to expand my horizons and fish other waters and high on the list is fishing the Arkansas River near Leadville, CO. My grandfather was there back in the 30s and came home to tell folks about stepping across the Arkansas River and they thought he was CRAZY!! (The Arkansas is about half a mile wide near my home town.) Anyway, enough for now. Been busy duck hunting and deer hunting, but now I'm itchin' for a fly fishing trip. TIGHT LINES!!! Terry
  10. fishinwrench, Trust me.... If you're going to fish the White or North Fork Rivers in Arkansas, be sure to add a few of those to your fly box. Last time my friends and I were on the Norfork tailwaters (in late October) the trout were snubbing their noses at everything we drifted over them. The Rainbows were even coming up to us and smelling our waders!! Finally, one of the guys tied on a size 18 Copper John with a 22/24 what he called a "trout crack cocaine" dropper about 18" down and he started smoking the rest of us! We all tied on something similar, but the CJ was what was getting their attention. Made a not so great day to start turn into a pretty good day. I fish the Spring, North Fork, and White a lot and stonefly patterns (esp. CJ type) are sometimes the only thing these fish want..... At least for me......
