  1. Thanks' for the kind words! 'besides the common "candy" applications... 'consider another reason to consider L.C.A.'s My choice... Bug-Bond Original w/pro tips... 'das welded [ie threadless] wide body tunnel hull...
  2. 'Been there... 'Done that... Tried 'em all [CCG, Loon, TF, DH, BB] I absolutely prefer... BUG-BOND [Original Formula] WITH the applicator Pro-Tips...
  3. 'Phly Welding... Wrapped & Welded Hybrid Tubular Ultra Wide Body Tunnel Hull Cicada Phly...
  4. You will have to send off an email to Jay... If you mention the #510 KnuckleHead, he will be dialed in... Jay is a busy guy, out of town now and again but a reply will soon follow... Tell him what you have in mind and he will take it from there... I have absolutely NO regrets, what so ever... it doesn't get any better !!! Cheeerz Pete Resistance is PHUTILE...!!!
  5. Phorm Phollows Phunction... the uncluttered version...
  6. 'Somehow, that little inbox always seems to get overlooked... 'must be my old eyez !!! PM sent...
  7. Tubular Welded Wide Body... Downsized version... 'same idea as before, only on a "small" HMH tube...
  8. G'day Kevin... I'll lay down several white or cream Whiting American Rooster Saddle pheatherz as a base... dial in some phlash... then the topper pheather is chosen to add some phishy contrast and insinuate the body cavity and lateral line... Whiting American Rooster Saddle Golden Badger and Whiting Bronze Coq De Leon Rooster Saddle Cream Badger... Whatever works, looks good, and solves the equation is fair game... I'm always searching for interesting saddles with curious phishy colours that are straight, full, and prime for the task...
  9. HMH puts forth some nice tube tools, noteworthy vises... and tubes & accessories... I added a conehead to shift the CG forward and get deeper faster... 'got a little wreckless with peacock herl to better define the profile... and extra phlash for enhanced seasoning...
  10. I'm not sure who makes them but I know where you can get them... The Bear's Den Fly Fishing Company has 3-D Eyes Oval Pupil - Pearl... 'several sizes in packs of 20 or 100...
  11. 'Somewhat less challenging than the rather involved Dual Tube Phly... this is a spin off of my Phly Welding technique... I prefer and recommend Bug-Bond Original L.C.A. [light cured acrylic]... Peeete's Welded Wide Body Tunnel Hull Pheather n' Phlash Tube Phly... It's best to prep symetrical pheatherz and phlash that will be welded in place on each side... turn off the fan... don't sneeeze... have 'em ready to go and the welding process will progress more smoothly... 'starting off with the tube and the soft hook holding "junction tube"... Bug-Bond [and all L.C.A. that I have tested] adheres better when it has some texture to grab on to... I prefer pearl Bill's Bodi Braid and it serves as the phoundation for the majority of my phlyz... 'phirst pheather welded to the tubular phoundation... 'second pheather with some Crystal Phlash welded in place... 'contrasting phinal pheather welded in place... 'encapsulated 3-D Eyez... 'bottom profile phish eye prospective... 'slight variation of the phinal pheather yields a different coloration or personality... a heavier or lighter hook will target different layers of the water column... FYI: Google "phly welding" for variations on the technique... That's my story and I'm stickin' to it... don't take any wooden knickles !!!
  12. If it looks as if it was tacked on as an afterthought, it probably was... 'perhaps better to strive for subtle incorporation of natural material to insinuate an illusion... google: "squimpish flies"... David Nelson professes a beautifully conceived tying philosophy and is a big influence in my vision of what a fly should strive for... and look like...
  13. Personally, I prefer Whiting but, any good saddle hackles will work... besides the JC, foil and 3D eyez all have a place and a time... fyi: google "phly welding" for previously posted details...
  14. Tie for yourself... don't worry about what some opinionated self appointed expert has to say about what you tie or how you tie it... As you progress, refine your basic skills and don't be afraid to tie without a recipe... start with a vague notion in mind and use fur, feathers, and flash to create an illusion... NO rules... Squid?! Stripes feeding on cephalopods seem to think so... the JC does no harm and makes me more pleased with the insinuation...
  15. 'utility grade worksforme... if you go over them with L.C.A. [light cured acrylic] or Hard as Nails they will last longer... you can close up the splits to make 'em look better... split nail... L.C.A. applied... 'repaired and quite serviceable...
  16. w/ 1/8" mandrel, original box and warranty... pm if interested
  17. I'd like to respectfully enter a plea of... GUILTY !!! Classic Kinetic Sculptures ALL.. Several made of Unobtainium... NO regrets!!!
  18. Phly Welding with Bug-Bond and naturally barred pheatherz... and...
  19. 'possibly some Ray's Fly genes going on here... or not... Bill's Bodi Braid wrapped on a Mustad Big Game Light #1 and garnished it with some pheathers phur n' phlash crowned with Peacock Herl... BUG-BOND voodoo magic acrylic body work complimented with Phoil Eyez under glass... 'same idea but without the maribooo pheatherz...
  20. It's a precision tool designed to apply thread at a specific tension [enough to hold the material but not break the thread]... After the internal spring pays out approximately 24" of thread, the mechanism must be reset by slightly unseating the spool... quick and easy... If you tie teeny weeny flys which require ultra fine thread, this tool would be an interesting and rewarding revelation... 'Beautifully crafted and a pleasure to use... I have NO regrets... Cheeerz
  21. Agreed...I hope to be ordering mine soon. By the by, that is one seriously cool bobbin...what is it? J-Bobbin... if you go to the J-Vise site, Jay has started producing them in his fine style, grace, and function... Cheeerz
  22. There's a bright spot on the Darkest Continent... It's the light burning in Jay Smit's machine shop...
