  1. Where I live there's no limit in how many fish you catch, but in the number you keep. If the limit is 5 a day and say 10 in possession, then that refers to the limit allowed to keep. You can catch and release all you want.
  2. Oh yeah I guess we should have looked at the original post date. Bummer
  3. I would be up to another swap
  4. I agree with the better than the outdated forums. I live on the west coast and seems like most of you live to the east, but there's more going on with this forum than the local ones here. There's Kiene's Fly Shop Forum and the Kern River Fly Fishing Forum; not that they are outdated, but they are both located in the southern sierra, where I live in the northern Sierra's. They are both great forums, but I get more out of this site than both of those. I especially like the amount of swaps here. Thanks for all your work.
  5. I have spent most of my life living in or near Portola, CA; My high school years, plus a few more, in Eugene, OR, but I didn't pay attention to the fisheries around Portola until I started fly fishing. As a kid we fished the lakes, but not the rivers or creeks. When I moved to Eugene I started to fish the rivers--cause we lived on the Mckenzie. Not until recently did I start fishing small creeks. I'm back to the Portola area, although living in Reno, NV, and have found so many new places I've never fished. The Truckee River has large browns and rainbows, and at Frenchman Lake on the east side of the lake there's a small tributary named Galeppi Creek. Yesterday I checked it out for the first time and was amazed how many fish I saw. I only had a small box of dry flies; that they weren't interested in, water's still to cold so not much luck, but they were there. Next time I will come more prepared. Also, I didn't spend much time there so I didn't get any pics of the creek. Here's a pic of the one I caught on a Royal Wulff size 22 that I tied, he looked a little beat up but he was willing to play. Hopefully I'll find time to make it back soon. Little Last Chance Creek is another spot up at Frenchman Lake I want to spend time fishing. I'll take pics of both next time.
  6. Sounds great!!! If you could Pm or post up when they do get into the mail, that would be awesome. Will do
  7. Got your PM--have your addy :headbang: will drop in the mail sometime this week after I finish enrolling my son in school. :wallbash:
  8. Wow! You really are good at tying salmon flies. Amazing! I like the name too, it fits.
  9. You can keep the extras. This being my first swap, I didn't think to send extras like I would have wanted to as a Thanks for hosting.
  10. Finished flies a few days ago, but had to move this weekend. I'm now ready for an addy.
  11. Those are some nice fish. Where are you fishing?
  12. Figured out my TBD. It will be 12 Chironomid Suspenders :headbang:
  13. great fly, I tied a black on brown with a large dumbbell eyes to get down deep at Pyramid Lake
  14. Definitely not a dis, just curious. I probably suck, I just started and am having to teach myself fly fishing and tying. It's a lot of fun though. I live in Plumas County, CA. Plenty of water here. I just keep trying again and again and one of these days I'll get the hang of it. I live at Lake Davis, a great trout fishery. I've only caught a few fish on one trip otherwise I've spent many days of fly fishing just trying to learn. In fact I learned how to tie to know what to put on the end of the line. So far the last few months have been a great journey. Wish you luck on your next fish. Jeremy
  15. Wow! You've got more than 2000 posts on this site and I joined your beginner fly swap so I assumed you've been fly fishing for a while. How long have you been tying flies? Congrats on your first fish on a fly, firedad0 Jeremy O. (fly fishing/tying newbie)
  16. These look like they'd work well at Pyramid Lake,NV for big cutts
  17. I've just started tying and maybe I don't have enough of an imagination, but it's easier for me to follow pattern recipes rather than making up my own. I guess sometimes I leave out steps though too, like hackle on EHC or if I don't have the right material I'll skip steps or substitute for a material I do have.
  18. When it's crowded or if fishing with some you might be 25-50ft. or more. I've only fished at the Nets, but there are other hot spots that are smaller and fill up faster. There's enough room to let your fly drift, but I mostly like stripping streamers. I don't think it's too big of hassle to carry the ladder around, in fact I'm going to start using one at Lake Davis too.
  19. A few people at the north nets beach today, was really slow all day. I only landed a few, one was a 3 or 4lb sucker fish.
  20. I'm a newbie to Pyramid and to fly fishing/tying, but doesn't seem to be a lot of different techniques used out there. Ladders or ladders with chairs are popular because they can cast further out and set up close to the drop offs. This time of year fish are in the shallows or just off the drop off areas. Wade out to about 4 ft. set up ladder and fish from 4 ft. to 20+ ft. Sinking lines, stripping foam beetles or woolly buggers and Chronomids under an indicator on floating line are the most popular methods, (for the cutthroats anyways). Seems like people switch back and forth to what works. Summer Sacramento Perch I don't know about. I don't know if there is much dry fly fishing. I use a 7wt. and switch from a 30ft. shooting head setup to WF floating with an indicator. There's usually enough people to watch to see when to switch.
  21. I don't think they're worried about gangs, more like they're pissed about it. On another forum we discussed the graffiti and was told from someone who knew people that lived on the reservation, that the local kids where always vandalizing and stealing from vehicles and boats, so I don't know if they think it was even someone from Reno, but they're pissed either way. This is sacred land to them.
  22. Seems like you never have enough yellow humpys
  23. Already taken care of, also could you please critique my flies, because I'm new and need to know. Thanks, Jeremy
