  1. I am a gadget nut too, Ralf. For now I am fighting the urge to buy one ( I know I will end up with one!) The chip clip works good for the hair but the CDC is a different matter . Tube
  2. I live in Missouri and fish the Ozarks . Little Niangua White river. Current river . Meramac in Missouri and the White and Norfork in Arkansas. The BWO's I tie are the tradtional Catskill's pattern with Iron blue dun hackle tip wings and collar hackle. Tube
  3. I average about 75 days a year on the water hopefully more this year. By no means would I even consider keeping every thing I caught. I have said it before "We as fishermen are all shepards of the waters we fish". a good shepard doesn't dissimate the herd , rather takes only what he/ she needs and is going to use. Of all of the fish I ever caught I only kept one for a mount . A big old bucket mouth Black Bass. Unfortunatly the fish stayed in the freezer and was wasted . this happend 20 years ago and I still feel bad about it.Now I have a digital cam so , this aint gonna happen no more. I fish for Bluegills,Red ear ,Black bass, Small mouth,Warmouth, Crappie, White Bass, Trout and Salmon My favorite to eat hands down. Gills and Crappie The way I release my fish is First I will try not to play him too long , I will only use a net if I intend to keep the fish. I cool my hand in the stream and gently cradle the fish under his belly , don't squeese him . I fish barbless so the hook 99.9% of the time is fairly easy to remove. Try not to keep him out of water too long. the less handling the better. For fish that have been played hard I will face him up stream and by gently holding his tail resusatate him by moving him back and fourth in the current to help the fish force water through his gills. When he is ready to go he will let know and swim off under his own power. I haven't killed a fish that haven't wanted to or had to for many years. Hope this helped Tube For one that is hung deep I will cut the line and leave the fly, the hook will rust out fairly fast with little or no harm to the fish . When I go to release him using the tail hold method if the fish acts sluggish and he wants to belly up instead of swim off I will then kill it.
  4. Thanks for the pattern! Ought to work great here BWO' s are coming off now. Tube

  10. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by uncletube: Glen's Giant Stonefly nymph
  11. I personally use a mix of both, With some synthetics I get a lustre or sheen that compliments the naturals that I use, the synthetics tend to be more durable as well . naturall hair dubbing can be frustrating to use at times ie. seal fur But, so can some of the synthetics. For Buggers I will use either Chenille for the body and a palmered hackle, or Estaz leech lace with no hackle. My fishing bud uses Mike's Mohair yarn which is great for a leechy look and doesn't use a palmered hackle on the fly either. It depends on what you want to match , Sculpins , leech's, Hellgramites etc. As for tails I still use Marabou for the tails for Buggers that I use for trout, panfish, and bass, for Salmon and Steelhead I use Icelandic sheep hair So, what I suggest is find out what works or doesn't work for you and build on that. Fly Tying is an art and these things are your media have fun with it and sore more lots of Bright fish.
  12. Every once in a while I learn something , I have been have some problems with my Photo's of flies and one of them has been lighting . I use a xeon light for my bench which also sold for less than $20 at Wally World .It is great to tie under but the lighting in my pix suck. I think I'll give the spectrum lighting a try. Thanks for the Idea. Tube
  13. What happened to the thread muddying the water? Tube
  14. Jim thanks for the suggestions and I am sure that something can be done handled in the proper manner. Tube
  15. Welcome to the site. I have a sister in Vermont ,so maybe the next time I am out that way you can show me how to do some beach fishing, Tight lines always, Tube
  16. Welcome David, I cant wait to see some English patterns again. I spent 3 months in Australia last year and had the privilage to fish with a couple of English men, Wicked mad Anglers both of them. Grayling you say? Enjoy the site. Cheerio Tube
  17. Jim I understand your concern about my actions toward Tourney fisherman, Although I sound rabid about the subject I am a grown man and I do have a bit of common sense. When I say" I will do my very best to foil Trout tourney fisherman at every turn." this of course is by legal means. I will not Phyiscally interfere or Illegally interfere with anyones fishing, but, be certain I will take action through proper channels, ie you swamp my ass on the bank me and the Missouri water patrol will meet you at wiegh in. Not to mention the cussin'you are going to get when you do it. I am not completely foolish. There will always be Tournaments. Too much cash involved. I grew up fishing these waters and when I was a kid 20 to 24 inch Rainbows were the norm. I saw this fishery damn near die in the late 70's, and I don't want to see it go that way again. So ,even though they ( Trout tourney fisherman) are with in thier rights there is such a thing as common courtesy.Whether it has to do with stream ettiquette or the way we provide for the fishery. All Fisherman are shepards of the waters they fish . It is up to all of us to see that they stay healthy not only for now but so our grandchildren can have the thrill of watching their children land their first huge redside or brown trout or even black bass. There are 16 Tourney's schuedled for this year already and the amount of Large fish taken out of this fishery will impact it severely . So as a result , and little humility provided by you sir,I am launching a Petiton to limit the number of Trout tournaments on lake Taneycomo. Anyone Interested can contact me at [email protected] loose not Faith Jim, I have lobbied the state legislature for Biker's right's and I am familiar with the right way to do things. The thread said I could rant that is what I did, and besides I told you I was a" loud mouthed bastard" I apologise for not telling you I was also Opionated ,Egotistacile and Overbearing. It's all good Tube
  18. I just don't buy into it JJ. Rod design Ill give ya as far as edge the ONLY edge they are concerned with is the all mighty buck, bottom line. Fly fishing IS the one of the oldest forms of sport , true sport and to most of us that do it have an effinity for it that is close to passion. I will and have shared my many years of knowledge and skill with anyone that asks. Why should I or anyone else that love the sport in its true form let a bunch of "Bass Master wanna be's" ruin not only the sport but the fishery as well. Is that the cost of this so called EDGE? It is not a price I am willing to pay. Besides the pursuit of the edge is one of things that make the sport what it is. Tube
  19. Mine are in the mail !!! Tube
  20. Nice variation of the pattern! I need to tie up some!!!! Tube
  21. As Fishinwrench will testify I am a loud mouthed bastard when it comes to what I beleive in,and in this case it has to do with Trout tourney's on lake Taneycomo. I would love to meet the ass hole that decided that Tournaments for trout is a good Idea. In 1992 I gave up bass fishing on the lake of the Ozarks because of the "Cast for cash crowd" Lake Ozark is 100 miles long and in some cases it is 2 miles wide. The fact that there are numerous 40 foot offshore 100 mile an hour boats on it is one thing , In addition any given weekend there are as many as 20 tournaments happening at once,so it is like trying to fish the North Atlantic in a Gail,That's all well and good I guess, cause like I said I got sick of the stuff and just gave up . Now the money hungry, over competitive assholes have started doing the same thing to what used to be one of the best Trout fisheries in the midwest if not the world. These fish unlike a bass tourney ARE NOT RELEASED!!! you have idiots in BASS boats running WFO all the way up to the Dam. In there frenzy to catch fish and win LIlley's Big fish prize, Will do anything to Intimidate the average Fisherman, be it a family on a fishing trip or the serious angler like myself. The way I look at it if you want to make extra money on the weekend get a second job and stay the hell off the water. Better yet get a hold of Ray Scott and Phil Lilley and all three of ya can go to hell. I won't give up my flyrod and I will do my very best to foil " Trout Tourney Fishermen"at every turn , YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Tube Tube
