  1. Hi Guys, I uploaded my last video about a nice ephemeral nymph useful for catching those trout and grayling that are feeding on emerging insects that stay just below the water surface. I wrote also an article about this fly and you can read on this link: P L IVORY EMERGER I hope you like it Luca
  2. Hi Guys, I tied that nice minnow imitation made with the Articulated Fish Spine. The fly is super and also its alluring power is very high. When it is wet the cast need s more effort, but maybe this is just a my problem. I wonder if someone of you have tried it and what you thing about it. Ciao Luca
  3. Hi Guys, now that the trout season is close I organize some fishing outings on reservoirs, trying to catch quite nice rainbows. Mostly of flies I use are streamers or nymphs, or a "mix" of them, like my bright Chartreuse Streamer Nymph, that I consider very effective on sunny days. Here you can find a sbs article about this lure CHARTREUSE STREAMER NYMPH I hope you like it Luca
  4. I do not think Terenzio read this thread! In my case, I made the sbs article thanks to Terenzio, he is himself at the "vice", and I believe it is quite clear the way I explain how to tie this kind of flies.
  5. Hi Guys, I have realized a new video. This time I describe how to tie a small nymph very alluring on reservoirs, but equally effective for tempting trout a and grayling on many water courses. This is the link to watch the video and to read my articke about this tiny fly: YELLOW MICRO GOLD HEAD I hope you like it Luca
  6. Hi Tim, this fly stays exactly like a mayfly on the water surface and you can increase the buoyancy of the rear part if you open a little the tail so to increase the points of contact with the water. Ciao Luca
  7. Hi Hopperfisher, I have just posted on my site an SBS article about this fly. The text is written in English, so it can be useful for some tier of this forum. This is the link: SPINNER REVERSE (English) Ciao Luca
  8. Hi Guys, I worked to a new video and I am pleased to present it to you, this is the link to watch it: SPINNER REVERSE I describe how to tie a nice mayfly spinner on a inverted hook, so to make nearly invisible the bend from the fish point of view. I hope you like it Ciao Luca
  9. Many thanks Tim, I realy like to use this sedge imitation. I watched some of your video and they are very nice and you show us some alluring flies. I am completing a new video about a dry fly tied in a particular way that can be useful with selective trout. I hope to upload this new video within the end of the month. Ciao Luca
  10. I tried to use cat hair for some salmon hair wings in the past and it works quite well, expecially if you collect it from the tail. You have to leave time to the hair to lose its humidity, because it become smaller with time with the risk that the fly lose its wing not longer correctly fixed. So do not use it fresh. Ciao Luca
  11. Hi Guys, I post the image of a sedge I found this morning outside my home, it is very unusual for me to see this insect here because I live in a big city and the river that runs through is not so clean. The photo is not so good but it is evident how similar is the aspect of this sedge with the CDC Brown Sedge Ciao Luca
  12. Yes, that is right, I used woodcock or partridge in agreement with the real insect I found on my rivers. I consider the CDC Brown Sedge one of the most useful fly of my box and I use it in many situations during the summer. If you tie and fish with it, I will be please to know if it works well for you too. Ciao Luca
  13. Hi Guys, in the past I wrote an sbs article about a nice sedge tied with the cul de canard for increasing its buoyancy and its imitative qualities. I translated the piece in English and I wish to propose you this pattern very useful for fishing on many water courses. In the web page I have upload also a video that I shooted recently on this fly. Ciao Luca CDC BROWN SEDGE
  14. Hi Whatfly, yes, you are right, I used hackles from two different necks, the larger one, which is at rear part of the collar, come from a Metz, instead the front one from a Whiting (ex Hoffman, I have one quite old ). I used two different hackles because my Metz is quite empty, I need to replace it with a new one, so I did not found an hackle in correct size for my work. But the result is good also in the way I followed. The Devaux flies were really popular here in Italy, as well in France and Belgium and I suppose even in many other European countries, more than twenty years ago and I think that lots of fly fishermen continue to use them. There are several patterns in this serial and in Internet you will find many of them. Sometime I use this tying technique, which is also called of the ringed body, for personalizing some of my flies and I have described them in my books and on my web site. Ciao Luca
  15. Hi Guys, I post on this forum the Devaux 699, a fly that I presented a few months ago on Classic Fly Tying. This dry pattern dominated the fly fishing field in Italy in the eighties, time when this sport became very popular in my country. The Devaux 699 is part of a famous French series and the characteristic of many of them is the conical body, which is tied in part over the collar. I filmed the building process of this fly and you can watch it on this YouTube link DEVAUX 699 video To activate the under titles in your language, click on the caption icon on the right bottom of the screen select the function to make visible the under titles: they will appear written in Italian. At this point click again on the same icon and select to translate it in your language. This translation is made automatically by YouTube, so it can happen that some words are not so correct, but you will understand for sure mostly of the text. For the material list you can check here, but it is written in italian, so you need to translate it DEVAUX 699 (material list) Ciao Luca
  16. Hi Kokoek9, I post a picture and the link of an article I wrote a few year ago about the SBS of a Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear (it is written in English). As you can see, I prefer to use long shank hooks, as this allows me to reduce the hook size, but not the fly dimension: I do not like large hooks for many of my patterns. Have a look to the ribbing, the finished fly has small gold oval tinsel, instead in the sbs I use a copper wire. I hope it can be of some help for you. Ciao Luca GOLD RIBBED HARE'S EAR
  17. Hi Kokoek9, Crackaig gave you a good adivice where to find good wire at low price. But take care of the wire from cable, because they are sometimes pure copper that make oxide with time. Maybe you can fine a more durable wire from the small engines which are in some toys, because this has a sort of outer coating, but you can also buy just three spools in size fine, small and medium: they are cheap and they last for tens of flies: with this three you can see directly on the body which is the right size for you fly. I like the Gold Ribbed Hear's Ear with just five or six turns of ribbing and I build the abdomen appling the fur on thread that I have well waxed, instead for the thorax I don not use wax but a dubbung twister. Ciao Luca
  18. Hi Guys, yes, not all the translator works well with the fishing terms. "Amo" is "hook", but also "I love" in Italian, so if the translator is not updated quite well, it can cause misunderstanding, but I sure you can understand the sense of the frases. Ciao Luca
  19. Hi Guys, I am an enthusiastic seabass fly fiserman and because of this passion I choice my nickname. I have developed some streamers to tempt this wonderful fish and I shooted too a video about the tying process of the Alicetta Volpina, a sort of anchovy imitation very alluring for seabass fishing, but also for others sea fish species. This is the link to the video ALICETTA VOLPINA Ciao Luca
  20. Yes, every browsers can translate a web page and this is something very useful to understand many not easy languages. Moreover, you can translate also the words of a speaker on a YouTube video, and I have given instruction how to do that on a post in the video section of this forum. Ciao Luca
  21. Hi Natedubay, in the next future I will try to translate in English many of the articles I published on my site www.moscofilia.com, but for the moment there are only a few in your language. About the Ephemera Vulgata, maybe you can try to translate the piece by one of those on line translator, not all the words will be correct, but the tecnology of these translators now is quite good and I am sure you will understand mostly of the text. Ciao Luca
  22. I bought my last two capes by e.Bay, but from British seller and trying to get nice quality neck, result I got very good prducts that I used for my classic salmon flies. If you inspect quite the well the photos, probably you will be able to select a good product. Ciao Luca
  23. Hi Guys, I presented on other forums a kind of fly that my friend Terenzio tied without using a conventional vice. Years ago I wrote an article about the technique to build imitations like these and I suppose you could be interested to see my sbs tutorial EPHEMERA VULGATA Ciao Luca
  24. Hi Guys, I have posted in the last months some videos on ClassicFlyTying forum, but I suppose this is the more suitable place for writing about trout fishing and trout flies, so I copy here my last post. My production of fly tying videos is going on and this time I am pleased to propose one of my favourite nimph useful for many strategies, but in particularly for the Polish technique. Have a look to the way I make the ribbing, because I cut the wire before completing the last body section: this solution increases the good looking of the fly. I have writte a sbs article about this and you can see it on www.moscofilia.com Ciao Luca To make appear the under titles in your language, click on the caption icon on the right bottom of the screen select the function to make visible the under titles: they will appear written in Italian. At this point click again on the same icon and select to translate it in your language. This translation is made automatically by YouTube, so it can happen that some words are not so correct, but you will understand for sure mostly of the text.
