Good thoughts. I like the KISS (keep it simple) method for tying. I have found that although it is fun to tie wacky patterns to see what might work, I get more frustrated when I tie a fly that I hate tying. Without giving up easy, I generally like to give it a few more go-arounds, but if I can't get it I will go buy that fly somewhere and try my hand at tying it again a few more weeks down the road once the frustration has let up. I generally like to stick to my standard patterns that I know work for me and that I love to have in my pack.
