  7. jsb2l i am looking at the same reel to but for my next trip in jan. the ross rhythm. depends on what you want to spend, the harris solitude cant be beat in my opinion,i have a solitude4 that i have had for many years now and never had a single problem with it big fish after big fish. for a 7wt you may want to go with the solitude3 which is a bit smaller in size and a bit cheaper at $250 I also have a ross g5 that i have had for about the same amount of time as the harris and have no prob's with it ethier, its a good reel and slightly more affordable than the harris. orvis battenkill reels are a bit more affordable than both at around $120-150 but i have had 2 of them and had some problems with spool to case "rubbing" after a awhile. I was told by orvis it was a "bad batch" but after 2 of them i dont use them anymore myself,it may have just been a bad run on that batch but it kinda soured me for their reels. I am seriously considering getting the ross rythme in a few days to take on this steelhead trip to PA so i will let you know what i think of it if i do get it. For $200 it looks like a very nice reel. SD
  8. never really thought about the ziplock bags SH69 but that is a good idea....most of my hackle is average price stuff but i have a few i wouldn't want anything to happen too. think i will do that just to be on the safe side. SD

  10. Yupp i understand the need for a long rod for steelies to me a 9' is "short" sometimes i like 9'6" to 10" for steelhead fly rods and 10'6-11' for spining, but the thing that has me kinda confused is their talkin about this on the Pere Marquette board and the PM is only about 30' wide at best in alot of the upper reaches. I know the 40' rod reply wasnt about the PM but the 20' one is.....just has me a little .... Plus how the hell would you net/tail a fish on a rod that long? ....things that make ya go hmmmm! SD

  15. Redneck there is a defference between horesing a fish and matching a fishes moves (or at least the best you can) when i first started fly fishing for salmon i was shocked that guys were using 6&8# test on fish that are 20-25# and as strong as they are. Needless to say i lost ALOT of salmon that first year of fishing for them but over the years i have learned how to make the best of the "light" line that i use on them probaly the same way HDS does on those big carp&bowfin. Although even when you think you have the upper hand, some of them find a way to beat ya SD
  16. Bassturd it does look good....i guess what i'm thinkin is will it float on a fly or will it sink? not puttin it down becuase it does look cool but thats the first thing that popped into my mind. SD

  23. The stuff i dont use very often i like to keep in a sealed tupperware contanier and label whats in it. My materials i use alot i keep in a 2 sided large "fishing" kit so i can not only get to it easy but i can take it with me on trips. SD
