Addict 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 My grandmother remembers fishing with a mormon girl fly. It was her favorite to tye up as well. She can't remember how or what materials now and I was wondering if anyone has a picture of one. Does anyone fish with any of the old classic patterns anymore? Al Beatty 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 Hi Addict, Over the year this fly has taken on many forms. The pattern I'm sharing with you is from McClane's New Standard Fishing Encyclopedia (copyright 1965) on the wet fly page (about page 405-6): Mormon Girl Hook: Standard wet, size of choice-I like #12 to #18 Thread: Gray Tag: Red floss Body: Yellow floss Hackle: Grizzly, palmered over the body, appears to be long, soft, & folded in the photo-I usually use hen hackle Wing: Mallard flank, tied Trude style, ends even with end of the hook bend Head: Thread Tight Lines - Al Beatty www.btsflyfishing.com
