Fly Hook Cross Reference Chart?

Hi All,

 

 

I am new here, so please don't chastise me if this question has already been posted.

I have tied flies for about 30 years of and on. I have been using hooks that I have had for

about 20 years. They are all mustad. I have been running out of some sizes and all the recipes

that I have use mustad. I would like to start using the new brands, but I don't know the model

equivelent to the mustads. Is there a cross reference somewhere for this?

Just call the hook makers and ask them for hook size chart. If I remember correctly about all of them send you a booklet with what their hooks match in a Mustad.

There is also a website that shows what hooks match Mustad's.

Best prices on hooks?: eBay sometimes is a good source, if someone has put up a large quantity and bidding's slow, but you need lots of time to pull this off.

 

That table mlongmire gave the web link to is pretty convenient. A more comprehensive resource is the paperback "Hooks for the Fly" by William W. Schmidt (2000, Stackpole Books).

Here is another useful guide for different types of fly tying hooks. I printed out a 2 sided copy and had it laminated as a handy reference at my tying bench.
