StoneflyKid 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 Hello everyone, Yup my names StoneflyKid and I'll letcha guess why. I've been into flyfishing since I was about 11 years old. The priest of our church at the time was a fisher himself. He was mainly into flysifhing more that spin cast fising. He helped me learn how to cast, tie the knots and basics of flyfishing. I started tying when I received a tying kit for Christmas from my uncle, when I was 12. And since then, I've been hooked on the hobby and art. Early summer of that same year was when I took my first trip to the Deschutes River in Oregon to take a whack at the Giant Stonefly hatch that the river is famous for. My dad and I met Fr. John, the priest mentioned earlier, at the BLM Trout Creek camping site. I took my tying kit along with me. A few of Fr. John's friends were there also and they admired my skill in tying. Since I was still new to the sport of flyfishing, I didn't catch anything. Got a few jumps at my flies, but they were little fishies. My dad, completely new to it, barely having ANY casting skills whatsoever, managed to caste out under a tree, hook a 13 inch Deschutes redside trout in spawning colors, and land it. Of course he stood back while I took the fly out of the fish's mouth. And the best of it yet was......he caught it on a spinoff pattern of a Clark's stone I TIED AND INVENTED! :yahoo: :headbang: Oooohhh yahhh. But, sadly, we lost the fly. It pretty much consisted of a Clark's Stone Wing, and Hackle style. And in place of the skinny mylar tinsel, I made an abdomen body of orange antron yarn, ribbed with gold oval tinsel. Simple, yet it worked. Since then, I've begun experimenting with foams, weaving styles, inner tube rubber.....yup inner tubing, and lotsa more materials and tying techniques. So there's a little info about me. I hope to have a fun time here, and meet some fellow flyfishermen and tyers. And of course, show of meh mad skillzzzzz ~StoneflyKid Edit: Oh, um can someone please direct me to the rools please? Thankx a bunch. Edit2: Oh and I can't figure out how to edit the sub title for this topic. I meant to say I'm a 15 year old, not a 165 year old.......

Take a look around and enjoy the site. Then check out our sister sites as well. RBF for the rod building side of the hobby if you feel the need to have another passion to go along with tying http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/ And then TFF is our site where we talk nothing but the fishing side of the sport http://www.talkflyfishing.com/
