goody 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2006 Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could suggest some patterns/recipes for Bull trout, as I will be travling to some bull trout and cutthroat water this fall. Are there patterns that imatate small cutts? Thanks

Peterjay 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2006 A few years ago, I was walking my dog along the N. Fork of the Clearwater in Idaho when I spotted a big bull trout (maybe 12 pounds or so) chasing spawning kokanees in a shallow riffle. (of course my rod was back at the camp) If you're heading to a spot that contains kokanees, it sure wouldn't hurt to throw a couple of big red/olive Lefty's big-eyed deceivers into your box. Even without the kokanees, a cutt deceiver should be easy to conjure up. Not many anglers (as far as I know) use deceivers in fresh water, but I tie them down to #12 and have taken a lot of trout and landlocked salmon on them. Coopersdad 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2006 I've fished several rivers in Idaho where I have been reeling in a smaller (8") cutthroat and had a bull trout nip its tail on the way in. They are some seriously predatory fish, dont hesitate to use a big clouser or whistler. -Mark
