RJD31 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 I would definitely recommend purchasing materials for the types of the flies that you will be using instead of buying a kit. Decide on the patterns that you will be tying first, and purchase the materials accordingly instead of buying kits that might seem like a good value until you realize how much you don't use as well as how much you need that isn't contained in the kit. Are you a beginner? Ron
HobbesFly 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 I'll agree with Ron to an extent. If you get a big kit like that, you're not going to get full utility out of all those materials, and you'll be so excited about all the different patterns that you won't take the time to get the basics down. Ideally, head to your fly shop and either take a class or hang out with trout bums. A second approach would be to understand your needs in fly tying and then look at some tutorials either in a book or online, and order materials accordingly. Hope that helps. -Hobbes

steelie 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Good Day, Got to agree with the previous two responses. You are better off buying materials for specific patterns. Although it looks like the materials offered in this set are decent quality, most kits have sub par materials. The other thing with kits is you may end up with materials you will never use. Why pay for something you won't use? Steelie
