Spawning Whitefish and Tulibee

Recommended Posts

Went out today and fished a river channel for some whitefish and tulibee.

I saw them there late at night the day before with a flashlight and wondered if they

bite during spawning this time of year.

It was a nice evening and when dusk hit, the fish came in by the hundreds

some of them right by my feet.

I was using a 3 weight floating with a strike indicator and every fly I could think of.

Hopeless.....

I tell you it was pretty frustrating with all those nice whites stacked up like that and they wouldn't even look

at a fly.

Under the ice or in spring they are easily catchable but at least now I know that during spawning

these guys are impossible. Or was I doing something wrong?

Oh well. It was a great evening there and it was nice to get away from things for awhile.

OLD HAT...Yeah, I just got skunked.

Pics below.

I have never fished a whitey spawn but pike I have and they will gourge themselves for a few - then won't touch anything & two weeks [ or so] they feast on anything again

whitey's can be alot of fun

I have fished the white fish spawn with egg flies for rainbows and cutts gorging themselves on the eggs. I always seem to catch more whities than trout though.

The whities are definitely spawning around here. If I throw yellow egg patterns in size 16 or so, they eat. 'course everywhere is different.
