dreamcaster4639 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 How important is the countersink of the beads you get at fly shops. I found a nice selection of brass beads in various colors at the craft store but are not countersunk on the one side. Want some feed back before I buy. They are 1/8" or 3.3mm 200 for $3. gpd4 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 I usually fill the countersunk area with lead wire, so it really wouldn't makeuch difference to me. For $3, you're not out much if they don't work, either.
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 That countersink is what allows enough clearance for some bead & hook combinations without bending the hooks out of shape, because the beads don't slide over all hooks the same. Plastic or glass beads don't have that feature, and many are used for flies. I've used brass beads without the countersink, but only on the types & sizes of hooks I can get them to fit. But I agree with gpd4, you're not out much at that price. Chances are you can find some use for them.
