ChickenFoot 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 Half hitch with a couple of coat of head cement 99% of the time.
moskito_01 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 If I want to finish the fly quickly, lets say dinner is waiting, I half hitch. Otherwise I whip finish. Why? Because this damn tool you have to use to perform the whip finish gets me every time. I need about three tries to whip finish once. It just confises the hell out of me. And yes, I had a pro show me how to use the tool. I guess I am just not into whips. Andy
nightfish 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 I also half hitch during construction, especially when using the rotary vise. I always finish with a whip...2 four turn whips, no cement. I use a Matarelli unless I'm finishing the fly at the bend, then I do it by hand.
Sean Juan 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 You must whip it whip it good. I don't use glue on trout patterns - I hate glue.
fishyfranky 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 Ever since I got hitched, I whip finish less.
njsimonson 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2004 Last night, while tying a madam-x, I used the half hitch for the first time. I found it easier to control the thread along the rubber legs and orange indicator yarn, without messing up the angle of the deer hair and legs. Most of the time, I'm a whip finisher. siestafred 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2004 Three half-hitches and Flexament. Can't remember the last time a trout fly came undone before the fly itself was totalled....or grew a treebranch !
