Crackaig 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2012 This summer (ha ha) I've been using a wet hawthorn / heather fly with some success. This is it. There is a heavy and a light weight version. The heavy version uses a black coloured copper wire body; the lighter one just the black tying thread. Hook: 12 to 16 wet fly. Thread: Black UTC 70. Body: (For the heavy version) Fine black copper wire wound in touching turns Thorax: Black ostrich. Wing: A few strands of golden pheasant tippet dyed red with a few strands of pearl crystal flash over. Hackle: Starling. At one point I was fishing a team of three flies all imitating Hawthorn / Heather flies. A bibio sedgehog on the top dropper, a Bibio on the middle and my wet hawthorn on the point. Not surprising as the Hawthorn / Heather fly fall is a major event on Highland lochs. Cheers, C.
