Phish 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2012 phish... Thanks for the answer. As I do not have to contend with rocks, they are not a problem. However, drowned timber tops are a characteristic of the waters I fish, and I have yet to have the eyes on one crack. I make a concerted effort to lay my fly against the tree trunks; not hit them with the bug. I typically cast to the side of such structure, rather than directly at it. This avoids the problem. I too use the 3-D eyes, but they are not as readily available, cost substantially more, and are more trouble, IMHO, in getting them attached, and work just as well. I have to go to a fly shop to get the 3-D eyes, but I can get the doll eyes at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnns Fabrics, Wally World, and any of the fabric shops that carry craft supplies---a real convenience!
