KCJerryD 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 Tried a bead head wooly bugger last night. Definitely need to improve my palmering technique. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
André Ribeiro 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 Hi Jerry, You need to choose a feather with shorter fibers, try 2 times the hook gap distance. Check it out: http://www.fuzzyflies.com/2013/07/a-espetacular-woolly-bugger.html Big Hug
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 Not too bad for a newb! You hackle is a bit over sized (fibers a bit to long) as Andre has said for that hook, but nothing wrong with over sizing sometimes. I tie some bigger buggers for bass & prefer the hackle to be over sized a bit. However, I also use a hook with a wider gap. Your fly will certainly catch fish, but sometimes the combination of hook gap & over sized hackle will clog up the gap & make getting a good hook set difficult. Your palmering is not bad, and the more you do the better you'll get at it.
streamcaddis 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 The hackle is too large. I would go out and get some Whiting Bugger Packs. Other then that take it out and fish it....
