Ok folks Eide has joined the swap meaning its 2 extra flies to tie. Plenty of time till May so shouldn't cause any headaches.

Nope, the adult body is sometime only 3mm. I'm hoping with this set of flies I'll have some insipration and a box of 14 patterns to take into the hills in the summer and catch a troot.

Its a test more of your thread control than anything else. You only need the minimum turns to hold material and the minimum material to make the pattern. I found when I got started I rattled off 7 in no time. So pleased was I that I have done a dozen for my own boxes while I was at it.

Heck Joseph, those hooks look big in the pic. I tied the first batch on the size 20 straight eye like your U003 and as a spent wing they look huge next to the 24 emerger. I really like the looks of the spent wing and don't know if the tie could be much smaller than a 20 but the emerger can be.
