Fly Tying

Recommended Posts

Decided to stop at a pond where we normally see a lot of Bluegill in their beds this time of year. Unfortunately, it was tough to tell as the water was murky from the recent rains.... Caught several Bluegill after finding a pattern (San Juan Worm under a strike indicator) that worked but did leave them biting as we had to call the trip short. Fun stuff! Today's Video.

Got some underwater video Bluegill on their beds yesterday. Murky conditions made it tough to get a clear view of the Bluegill but they were there guarding their beds.

Did see a couple of Bass lurking in the distance; also, had one Bluegill's attention when our fishing fly passed near its bed. Although it nipped the fly, we were unable to get a hook set.

Afterwards, went back to fishing and less video taping... caught several. Then, headed down the road to another pond.

Caught a couple of more Bluegill, and then spent the rest of the time working a fishing fly along the bottom in hopes the Bass that were cruising the canal would bite. Got their attention several times, but none struck to the point we could set the hook.

Oh well, till next time! Yesterday's Video.

Been busy and such, and with Denison Dam looking really promising for Stripers this Season, has been a tough go getting out to fish this past weekend. No worries made it today... went with a purple and white COAF Damsel Fly that we tied several weeks ago.

That was the ticket with three Bass caught this round. Got video of two; camera battery died by the third Bass. Did get a picture of it though! Today's Video.

Was not fly fishing but did use a Clouser fishing fly on a Float and Jig Rig to fish Denison Dam. Denison Dam (Lake Texoma) is releasing water and the lake went over the spillway from all the rain in our area.

When this happens, the chance of hooking into some nice fish is excellent. Later, as things return to normal, then we switch from Surf Casting Gear to Fly Fishing Gear!

Did not hook up but did see others... was able to get video of two nice Stripers being pulled in. Saturday's Video.

More fun (not fly fishing) but did get a Bass using a Float and Jig Rig with the Clouser Minnow being used in place of a Jig. Good to see the Clouser Minnow still can produce in the local pond... Today's Video.

More fun with the Float and Jig Rig as well as using a 2oz weigh to send a Clouser Minnow over 100 yard at the local lake's tailrace. Struck out this round but did get some casting practice in as well as helped another fisherman with a Bruiser Catfish he caught! Today's Video.

Headed to the lake after work this evening. No bites for a while and then caught two White Bass using a White Tube Fly. Used Surf Casting Gear and a Float and Jig Rig substituting the Jig with a Tube Fly! Today's Video.

Delayed in posting... went on a cruise to the Gulf of Mexico; had a great time. Was not ready to come back. While in Cozumel went snorkeling at a beach. Water was murky from recent rains but did get video of little fish. Then, while heading back to the ship, one of the pretty snorkelers gave us a heads up that there were fish just off the beach at Senor Frog's. Was able to get video of little "lookdown?" fish. Fun stuff! Video.

You're supposed to do close ups of snorkelers you meet !!!

Too bad the water was murky ... but glad to hear you had a good time.

Fished yesterday with the intent of fishing for Bass. Ended up switching to Soft Hackles and catching little Sunfish and Bluegill. Definitely overpowered them with a five weight fly rod.

Today, after work, decided to use the Micro Fly Rod and a Foam Grasshopper in Size 14. Lost count of how many we caught and released but stayed inline with the Micro Fishing concept of catching lots of little fish!

Fun stuff! Today's Video.
