Newfie Flytyer 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 I would like to know some Nymph patterns that work well for Brook Trout in still water (ponds, lakes, ect..). Thanks
Al Beatty 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Hi Newfie Flytyer, Two wet flies that have worked well for me on brook trout are the Tellico Nymph and the Carrot Nymph. Take care & ... Tight Lines - Al Beatty www.btsflyfishing.com
pacres 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 one I never have enough of in my boxes is the Orange soft hackle, and an orange but Pheasant tail nymph.
Pujic 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Hi Newfie Flytyer, Welcome to the board. Depending on the type of lake or pond you're fishing in, I'd suggest trying some dragonfly and damselfly nymphs. I've had pretty good success with both in some Northern Ontario brookie lakes. Nick
PoPnBuG 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 OK... is the "Orange Nymph" the same as a "Orange soft hackle" ?? FAOL shows the 'orange nymph', and 'copperfly' shows an orange soft hackle, they look pretty similar to me... I would think it would be a pretty good all 'round pattern.. pacres 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 QUOTE (PoPnBuG @ Feb 11 2005, 12:31 PM) OK... is the "Orange Nymph" the same as a "Orange soft hackle" ?? I couldn't find the Orange Nymph on FAOL, but it's likely that they are very similar patterns. For the nymphs I tie to target Brookies and browns, Orange is a must have. Basically any traditional nymph pattern with an orange spot does well for me.
PoPnBuG 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Yeah, I think so... they're very similar: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/f...073100fotw.html basically a difference in how much body, and how much hackle...
ctducker 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 I second the Carrot nymph!!!! Great fly and super easy to tie!!!!
pacres 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Thanks for the link. I can see the resemblance. The carrot looks a bit fancier, but really no difference.
getholdofjoru 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 I didn't even know that orange was such a spectacular color to use for brownies/brookies. Is this true with all water or just still water?
